My site was not listed in my specific category, but I know the editor was active because he was adding his own sites. The beautiful part about this is that his site was stealing my content, from my RSS feed.

I hardly see a reason for listing a site that steals content other than having a self-serving nature.

Not only this, but also he had sites listed that were parked, forsale on Sedo, etc.. etc...

I have filed the appropriate abuse form, but I wanted to get some feedback here if possible.

Also, the editor is still in charge of the category, but he did remove my content from his site.

There isn't one and we want to list the original unique content. So whenever you see this, point it out and the appropriate actions will be taken to clear it up.

<add>The appropriate action by the editors would be to remove the duplicated or mirrored content site and only list the site that appears to contain the original content. </add>

Without knowing details (and since you have filed the abuse report there is no need for me to have them, nor do we want them posted in this forum) there are many reasons why parked, for sale, etc sites are showing on the public viewable portions of the directory and not all of them mean abuse. The most probable are that the sites used to be listable and have since been taken down, redirected, or parked. If the auto link checkers haven't been run on the category for a while and an editor hasn't gone through and checked the links manually they will still be present. Reporting them via the "update" link at the top of the category page will help editors manually find and remove them.

Thank you. That is the appropriate action. Investigators will be able to take a look at the proof you provided and carry out an investigation to determine if abuse has taken place and take the appropriate actions to rectify the situation.

Also, the editor is still in charge of the category, but he did remove my content from his site.

Just to clarify no editor 'is in charge' of a category. Many editors have permissions in many categories and some editors have permissions to edit in all categories. Just having a name at the bottom of a category doesn't mean that editor is responsible for any of the problems within the category. When the abuse report is investigated, any abuse present will be found and the culprits dealt with.

Hope that helps.

Shadow

If you're looking for legal advice on copyright issues, this is an excellent place not to find it. There are any number of places -- elsewhere -- for that.

In general, it is not possible for a surfer to tell what editor is doing what, so it is well not to make accusations for which you can have no evidence. That just tells everyone you really don't care what the truth is -- and that may not be the message you want to give out.

Focus, instead, on verifiable facts. There are parked domains listed, OK? Tell us what they are (in the abuse report). We'll remove them, and WE'LL know what happened. (Nearly always, in fact, a listed but parked domain is webmaster negligance, and not editor abuse. But what matter the odds? Focus on the facts, and the odds will work out themselves in the long run.)

Thank yo for the understanding response shadow575. I hope that this is handled as you suggested that it would.

In terms of the parked and 4sale domains, I would agree with you except for the fact that this is an extremely niche category. Meaning, it was probably just created within the past month or so. Therefore, that seemed like a pretty fast time for a site to be put on Sedo, if it was originally a full fledged content rich site.

I realize this is not the place for legal advice, I assure you I have already taken other routes in regards to this. That was not the purpose of my post, did you read the entire thing?

The only evidence that I have is that he was listed at the bottom of this category as the 'Editor'. There are only about 30 sites listed in this category and he is the only editor listed. Therefore, I assumed that he was the one making the changes. Sorry, if I was in accurate with my statement.

As mentioned, I filed the proper abuse form, therefore I did not see the need to list the sites publicly in this form. This seemed to be the more professional way to handle the matter, since I was only looking for feedback into such actions taking place in the DMOZ.

And you did it the right way. Thanks. One of the editors will look into the report and make corrections if needed.

I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.

Your welcome, I can assure you that we take abuse allegations very seriously. All abuse reports are investigated and if abuse is determined proper actions will be taken to rectify the situation.

Don't apologize for THAT. You weren't required to provide helpful information. You volunteered to do it. Which is what the ODP is all about.
