dogeatdog Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 In the following links I see that there is a seperation of regional info (like Arreton, Bembridge, ), from the subject info (like Arts&Ents, Business&Econ, ), but I can't see where such things are "marked" in the dmoz data. http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Isle_of_Wight/ Which part of the data marks these things? Thanks.
Meta hutcheson Posted August 9, 2006 Meta Posted August 9, 2006 What do you mean by "the dmoz data"? Did you download the RDF?
Meta informator Posted August 10, 2006 Meta Posted August 10, 2006 Dmoz data is edited by humans you know, no "marking" Links related to the specific place Arreton are placed under: http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Isle_of_Wight/Arreton/ Links related to the whole Isle of Wight are placed under the topical categories, i.e links about art that are related to the whole Isle of Wight are placed under http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Isle_of_Wight/Arts_and_Entertainment/ Curlie (Dmoz) Meta editor informator
sfromis Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I'm assuming that the separation you're asking about is that the subcategories are sorted in two groups. Thats what we normally refer to as "sort priority", where each category can have its subcats and @links grouped this way. In the RDF dump (structure.rdf.u8.gz), this is represented by the element names for the "narrow" and "symbolic" elements being suffixed by a number (1 or 2), to indicate what subcats or @links are grouped in a higher priority group than the basic level which is placed at the bottom. Elements like "narrow2" and "symbolic2" belong to the same level. Beware that currently subcats named after US states or months are put into a special sort priority without this being visible in the RDF format. This may change.
