mehul Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 One site is owned by franchisee of Best Western Hotels. Dmoz have already listed the franchiser's site for this property in Virginia region. If URL of franchisee's website is suggested (which have similar and further more detailed contents), would it be concerned as duplicate? Or is it right to suggest new URL by "Update Listing"? I have mentioned URL's just for your reference only and you may remove them at your Sole discretion. OK. I would be waiting for your opinion.
lancelape Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Good question I look forward to a reply from an editor on this. From what I have read in the forums so far, my guess is that these two sites would most likely not be listed separately. Even though one is focused on a specific hotel, owned by a franchisee and does have unique content, that the two sites are affiliates. On the franchisee site when you go to make a reservation it even takes you back to the corporate site to checks rates and availability.
spectregunner Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Generic answer: We would not list both sites. It is within the realm of editor judgement to determine which, if either, to list. Content would be the determining factor. The editor would decide which of the two sites has the most/best unique content. Very often it is the local site, sometimes it is the Corporate site. The editor is going to view the sites from the perspective of the surfer, and really should not have a preconceived bias as to which is going to be the better. So very many of these things come down to one thing: unique content.
mehul Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Thanks Does this mean that I can go ahead with suggesting the franchisee's site? I understand that after suggesting the site, editor will decide which one is better for getting listed. Thanks again.
chaos127 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Given that we're not going to list two sites for the same hotel, if you think that the other site is more appropriate for listing, then you would want to change the existing URL for the other one. In which case, an update request would be more appropriate than a new site suggestion. It will also avoid it looking like you're trying to get a second listing by underhand means.
