...Yep - got an email with a 'key' in the subject line. Replied to this as requested - then all went quiet... what's the next step?

You should receive a second mail stating that your confirmation was received. After that the application is put to a queue to be reviewed by the Meta-Editors.

Just an idea: I dont know for sure if the system checks, but it would be good to do the reply with the same address you used for the application.

Yes - sorry - I got the confirmation email too after replying to the first.

I bet you're gonna tell me to do it all again... I've still got the emails from DMOZ if that helps?

Sorry to say, but old applications cannot be "revived". Normally, if the application was rejected, you should have received a letter stating you the reasons. Only advice was to resubmit the application. Maybe it got struck by the problems resulting from our ongoing serverupgrade.

Maybe you would want to read the FAQ at the top of this forum for some additinal information on applying.

(Forgot the conclusion: Yes, you would have to resubmit.)

I re-sent my application as suggested but just get:

"Sorry, you can only have one application at a time."

...anyone help me out with this...

Looks like your application might be a victim of the evil application eater It's probably in the system, but it'll take a tech person to nudge it along. I'll fire off an email to see if I can get someone to check on it.
