indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Dear DMOZ team How can I check my site is rejected ?
Meta hutcheson Posted February 17, 2007 Meta Posted February 17, 2007 If you found out your site was rejected, what would you do? And what's keeping you from doing it right now?
indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 I want to Know my site status If my site is rejected then I want to Know my site status and reason of rejection.
Meta hutcheson Posted February 17, 2007 Meta Posted February 17, 2007 We don't have reasons for rejection. We have reasons for listing. Well, A reason. The reason for listing a site is "significant unique information." If a site isn't listed, it's because nobody has yet found any significant unique information in it. So, now you know for certain what the reason for rejecting your site is, if it's rejected. But we don't know the real reason a site isn't listed. All we know is, nobody has found any significant unique information there. We don't know whether the site design is so bad that the editor couldn't find the unique content, or whether the site developer didn't KNOW any unique content, or the site developer didn't WANT to post any unique content, or whether the site developer hadn't yet gotten around to posting his unique content. Only the site developer knows that. (It amazes me that people who must already know exactly what is and isn't unique about their sites, ask someone who'd have to do all kinds of research to find out half of what they already know!) So, are you going to help all surfers, not just ODP editors, by answering that question? DON'T answer in this forum, of course: people who want your information won't be stopping here first. Answer the question on the website. "What's the unique information here, and how can a surfer get to it?" Or don't answer -- it's your website and you can do whatever you want with it. All I can do is tell you what editors look for, in websites that they consider listing.
indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 Site Submission Criteria While listing the site, are you check the google page rank or any other things
Meta gloria Posted February 17, 2007 Meta Posted February 17, 2007 We couldn't care less about Google rank. Have you read the Site Selection Criteria? You'll notice there is nothing about Google or listing in other directories.
indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 About Dmoz and Google directory Are google directory and dmoz directory are same. I seen the site listed in google directory also listed on dmoz. Are both are same directory ?
Meta gloria Posted February 17, 2007 Meta Posted February 17, 2007 Google directory is one of the users of ODP data. If you scroll to the bottom of a Google directory page, you'll see the required ODP attribution. Google updates at intervals, and ODP has no influence over how frequently they update. ODP always has the most up-to-date version.
indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 DMOZ Update Listing Are dmoz directory is update daily ? While submitting the site in the dmoz directory, why email id is asked.
indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 DMOZ Update Listing While hitting on become an editor, DMOZ Technical Problems occurs. Why ?
Meta informator Posted February 17, 2007 Meta Posted February 17, 2007 While hitting on become an editor, DMOZ Technical Problems occurs. Why ? Please read the announcement. Are dmoz directory is update daily ? Yes (if you´re asking if dmoz.org is updated daily). While submitting the site in the dmoz directory, why email id is asked. Perhaps you could make an educated guess on that one... Curlie (Dmoz) Meta editor informator
indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 Is dmoz editor work without pay? Is dmoz editor work without pay? Are google directory and dmoz directory are same. I seen the site listed in google directory also listed on dmoz. Are both are same directory ?
indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 Dmoz directory updation time What is the updation time of the Dmoz directory ? Are google and dmoz directory are updates at the same time period ? Can I personally chat with the dmoz editors. Are all the cateory have proper editors ?
Meta informator Posted February 17, 2007 Meta Posted February 17, 2007 Before you post more questions I would recommend you to take a step back and think before posting. Most of your questions can be answered if you read the available information at dmoz.org :icon_idea Editor work is unpaid. The ODP (dmoz.org) is continually updated every day. Concerning Google you have to ask them. Editors are not encouraged to chat with webmasters. If you´re asking if all categories have named editors, the answer is no, but at any given time hundreds of editors can edit any category. Curlie (Dmoz) Meta editor informator
indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 Dmoz editors delay If dmoz editors worked without payment, then why the editors take so long time for review of the site and there are enough number of editors in each and every category, then what is the cause of delay. Although I am not understand what is the criteria for site accepting of dmoz and why editors take so long time to accept a site. If they have a bulk of work, then I can take their positions.
thehelper Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I believe if you read many of the posts on this forum you could find that answer. We do not have to answer to how long a site waits - it waits until it is reviewed. Site submission is just one way of many for a site to make its way into the directory. There are not enough editors to monitor every category at once. If you think that you mis-translated. I have noticed that dmoz editors are most active in areas that interest them. Areas that do not have as many editors interested do not get as much attention. Also, there is no automatic notice of site acceptance or rejection. There is no mechanism for checking the status of your site. Best advice as far as submitting to dmoz is - submit your site then move on. There is nothing you can do except submit your site to the best category you think it fits in with the best Title and Description you can think of. Have a nice day.
indianwebmaster Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 Take my site IF you are a dmoz editor, then plz list my site in dmoz directory or help me in other way.
jimnoble Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Posting in this forum does not expedite the processing of a listing suggestion. If it did, the few volunteers prepared to work in here would quickly be swamped.
crowbar Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 If dmoz editors worked without payment, then why the editors take so long time for review of the site Because it's not a job, it's a hobby, and no one can tell someone when or how often to work on their hobby, . and there are enough number of editors in each and every category, then what is the cause of delay. There are never enough editors, and many of them are only interested in certain categories. Although I am not understand what is the criteria for site accepting of dmoz and why editors take so long time to accept a site. If they have a bulk of work, then I can take their positions. New unbiased editors are always welcome. How many of the 590,000 categories would you be willing to edit? My bet is just one.

Thanks and looking for a positive response.
Meta informator Posted February 19, 2007 Meta Posted February 19, 2007 Did you read the announcement which explains that we currently can´t process new applications? New editors are approved after they show an ability to read and understand our guidelines for editing. Curlie (Dmoz) Meta editor informator
indianwebmaster Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 Dmoz email id Dmoz email id ( staff@dmoz.org ) is not working. Failure message is shown on sending a message. Plz help
Meta pvgool Posted February 19, 2007 Meta Posted February 19, 2007 We know. But why do you want to send them an email? Everything you may want to do is available. Except for becoming an editor, and for that you just will have to wait. IMHO your use of the English language might not be good enough to become an editor in an English language category. Maybe you should focus on categories in your mother-language. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
indianwebmaster Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 We know. What is the next date of dmoz updation
