What should I do in that case?
Meta nea Posted April 21, 2007 Meta Posted April 21, 2007 I also believe that there is some problem with your system which should help users to update their site listings, because it have already passed more than a month and my site is still on the same WRONG category and has a descreption which is not truthful anymore. What should I do in that case? Update requests are reviewed and processed by editors; while requests for updates are displayed prominently, their being reviewed is still subject to an editor deciding to work in the category in question. crowbar Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Not all update requests are granted. Editors place sites in the most appropriate category, in their opinion, not in the category that the site owner desires to be in, and if a suggested description doesn't comply with our editing Guidelines, it won't be granted, either. If it's been a month, then you've probably asked for something that isn't appropriate, and the request was denied, or as nea said, no editor has looked at it.
Oleh Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 Okay, here is the deal: There was a site for company which was selling machinery and other industrial products, so that site was placed in this category: http://dmoz.org/World/Ukrainian/%d0%91%d1%96%d0%b7%d0%bd%d0%b5%d1%81/%d0%9f%d1%80%d0%be%d0%bc%d0%b8%d1%81%d0%bb%d0%be%d0%b2%d1%96_%d1%82%d0%be%d0%b2%d0%b0%d1%80%d0%b8_%d1%82%d0%b0_%d0%bf%d0%be%d1%81%d0%bb%d1%83%d0%b3%d0%b8/ The site is: <url removed> But later this company changed it's specialization and now it sells only cellular phones and accesories, so I decided that this directory: http://dmoz.org/World/Ukrainian/%d0%9f%d0%be%d0%ba%d1%83%d0%bf%d0%ba%d0%b8/%d0%97%d0%b2%27%d1%8f%d0%b7%d0%be%d0%ba/%d0%9c%d0%be%d0%b1i%d0%bb%d1%8c%d0%bdi_%d1%82%d0%b5%d0%bb%d0%b5%d1%84%d0%be%d0%bd%d0%b8/ would be much more approprice for the online store of cell-phones. Please explain why I'm wrong?
motsa Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 No one said you were wrong or that your update request was rejected. As nea wrote, update requests are usually handled more quickly than site suggestions but still rely on an editor actually choosing to edit in the category in question. If the scope of the site has changed as you noted, then presumably the update request is still waiting for someone to review it.
Oleh Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 2 weeks? How about 5? No one said you were wrong or that your update request was rejected. As nea wrote, update requests are usually handled more quickly than site suggestions but still rely on an editor actually choosing to edit in the category in question. If the scope of the site has changed as you noted, then presumably the update request is still waiting for someone to review it. Probably it does, but in the policy they say, that such requests can be handled UP TO 2 WEEKS, and I'm wating for 5 WEEKS already... That's why I'm worrying.
gimmster Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 but in the policy they say, that such requests can be handled UP TO 2 WEEKSWhere does it say that? II have not seen that hard two week figure quoted anywhere. I'm assuming you are looking at the 'submission policies' link on the update page (based on the question wording) which leads to http://dmoz.org/add.html The only vague time frame I see on that page is Procedure After Your Site is Submitted An ODP editor will review your submission to determine whether to include it in the directory. Depending on factors such as the volume of submissions to the particular category, it may take several weeks or more before your submission is reviewed.
Oleh Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 so everything is fine? So how long should I wait till I get any responce on that request? Could you please tell me?
Meta informator Posted April 23, 2007 Meta Posted April 23, 2007 We can´t tell you how long it takes because we ourselves don´t know how long it will take. Curlie (Dmoz) Meta editor informator
wing Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 So how long should I wait till I get any responce on that request? Wait as long as it takes. Could be anywhere from a few weeks to a few years. My advice: stop worrying about it. You've done your bit, you've told us about the change. It will be updated when an editor gets around to it. There's nothing more you can do to speed the process up.
