If an application is rejected you will receive an email with a list of the most common reasons for rejection. If there is more than just the common reasons the reviewing Meta will include "reviewer comments". If you have not been receiving that email, either we have the wrong email on the application or perhaps your spam filters have eaten the emails.

The other possibility that comes to mind is that after you submit an application a confirmation email is sent. You must reply to that email in order to complete the applications submission. Failure to reply to that email results in the application sitting in cyberspace and eventually being eaten by the system. You are always welcome to come here and request a check on the application, but you must follow the posting guidelines (i.e provide the proper information required for someone to look for you) and also wait at least 2 weeks from the time you confirmed the application.

Hope that helps.

It can take anywhere from two hours to several years for a site review to take place.

I do not respond to private messages requesting site status checks.

We replied to your 2004 application with an email declining it. You've probably purged your spam folder since then :).

We are joining editors every day.

If you try again, I suggest that you follow this excellent advice. However, if you've applied within the last couple of weeks, you must await that application's outcome before making a further one.

If your application is rejected you'll be sent an email saying so (be sure to check your spam folders in case it ends up there). The email will contain reasons for the rejection (possibly just a list of common ones). Unless a rejection message tells you told not to reapply, feel free to submit a new application. However it would be wise to work out why the previous one was rejected first, in order that you can correct any mistakes (think of this as part of the application process).

If you don't hear anything either way within 14 days, you can ask here for a status check on you application. Be sure to provide all the information asked for in the sticky post at the top of this forum.

Automatic rejection?

Hi there,

Today I have applied for becoming an editor for computers/software/shareware/directories category, and after some minutes I have received the rejection notice that was not contain any original text, NO EDITOR COMMENT was added to the end! Taking into account that waiting for site submission approval takes for some months (if not years) I want to know if how could my submission get reviewed and declined so fast? I am afraid that no one even saw it, but your system had rejected it automatically... BTW, in my submission I have reported some broken links in this category, but they are still listed, this again proves that no one has read my application!

Applications are not handled in anyway automatically. If you received a rejection email, it was reviewed by a meta editor. If they didn't choose to give a personal reviewer comment, then one or more of the common reasons applied. Applications to become an editor can be reviewed in anywhere from a few minutes from submission to several weeks. It all depends on the activity of a volunteer meta. Some branches have more active meta's reviewing applications than others, therefore its possible to have applications reviewed very quickly.

Meta editors generally don't take action in the category based on an editor application. If you have broken links to report, please use the Report Hijacks, Dead Links, Inappropriate ODP Content, and other issues here ONLY thread in our Quality Control Feedback forum here to report them. Thanks.
