I updated my site listing over one month ago and it has not changed. The FAQ says to give the site 2 weeks. Has anyone encountered this issue? Is there anyway I can discover the status of my request?

Update requests stand out quite prominently for us and are usually taken care of quite quickly. If you've seen no change in your listing, then your request was probably not compliant with our Guidelines and was declined.

Without giving the url, what was your request for?

I wished to change the category. The site was originally listed by location, but would be better served being listed by industry. There were also slight changes made to the description of the site.

A site could be listed in both places, if it qualifies, once in Regional/locality (where you must be currently) and once in a Topical area of the Directory.

Go to that Industry page and click on "Description" up in the right hand corner. That's the category description, and it will give you a good idea if you qualify to be listed there or not. If you do, just submit your site directly to it yourself. :)

As far as description changes, read this:

Thanks for the quick responses. I followed your instructions and clicked on Description on the Industry page. Our site should fit fine in there, but I read the following:

Please do not post multiple versions of your site - they will be deleted as they are identified, and could cause your site to be removed from the directory totally.

Would submitting the site again, but in this area, constitute multiple versions of the site?

No, it wouldn't. They really mean don't submit your site suggestion to multiple categories in that area, hoping to get lucky, ;). It's perfectly ok to be listed once in Regional, and once again in that Industry area. It won't cause you any problems, :).

In fact, editors are encouraged to send a site to both Regional or Topical, if they qualify for both.

Editors will usually pick up if your site is listed in a topical or regional category or visa versa, so there shouldn’t be an issue with you posting your site ONCE more to a possible secondary category that you may qualify in.

Crowbar: types faster than me ;-)

Be very glad I only use one finger and not all ten of em. sparks, smoke, ;).

They could mean don't submit multiple urls for the same site, also. Mirrors will be deleted.

The FAQ says to give the site 2 weeks.

Can you point out where the FAQQ says this? It is inaccurate and needs to be changed, unless it is just the first part of the somewhat standard 2 weeks to 2 years statement we are so fond of making.

How long does it take to update a listing?

Depending on the activity level of the editors in your area, it may take up to 2 weeks or more for your site to be updated. Please note that if you are requesting a change to your title or description, the ODP reserves the right to modify or deny that request within guideline standards.

It does say 'or more,' my mistake. I read it quickly and saw 2 weeks.
