youngwillie Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Is it better for a site to list in more than one category? This must be against the "guidelines" yet I see it time and again. (Yes I have examples) Also, if I ask for a site to be updated and the editor chooses to completely ignore the request for a change to the title and description, what can I do about that? Without of course, having my site booted altogether. I read so much bad propaganda about the ODP I would much prefer to believe that it isn't true. That it is actually a good and altruistic thing and hasn't been hijacked by the forces of cash. Convince me.
Meta windharp Posted May 6, 2008 Meta Posted May 6, 2008 Welcome to Resource Zone, youngwillie. Is it better for a site to list in more than one category? This must be against the "guidelines" yet I see it time and again. (Yes I have examples) Please check what I wrote in Maximum entries per domain? yesterday. Also, if I ask for a site to be updated and the editor chooses to completely ignore the request for a change to the title and description, what can I do about that? Please note that all descriptions/titles are in the discretion of our editors. We reserve the right not to use the suggestion you make, but write a description of our own. Actually, lots of update requests which want titles/descriptions to be changed are rejected, since most of them ask to add keywords or turn an ODP guidelines compliant description into onte that is not. If for example the title of your listing is actually incorrect (like a wrong company name) try to get the title updated only. Refrain from stuffing keywords in. Refrain from turning the description into promotional text. If you do so, most likely your update request will be accepted. And add a comment explaining why yor changes need to be made. youngwillie Posted May 7, 2008 Author Posted May 7, 2008 Many thanks Thank you for your time. Unfortunately, you have illustrated exactly what the problem is by not actually reading what I had asked. It is now very clear. Thank you and goodbye.
Meta pvgool Posted May 8, 2008 Meta Posted May 8, 2008 > Is it better for a site to list in more than one category? I don't know. And it is not relevant for us. We are interested in "is it better for our users if we list a site in more than one category "> This must be against the "guidelines" yet I see it time and again. (Yes I have examples) No, it is not against our guidelines. Editors can decided to list a site more than once. But suggesting a site to more than one category (except for some exceptions) is against our guidelines. > Also, if I ask for a site to be updated and the editor chooses to completely ignore the request for a change to the title and description, It is never ignored. We just sometimes decide not the honor the request. > what can I do about that? Without of course, having my site booted altogether. You can not do anything about it. Except ofcourse ask for an update and providing a guidelines compliant title and description (most update request we reject are for these reasons) and provide a good reason why we would have to change the listing. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
youngwillie Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 blah, blah, blah... Ah, so now we know. You don't really have anything to say but you need to prove your point. Not being a native speaker you probably wouldn't know what that is called. I will teach you a new phrase today: "Puffed up windbag" Many thanks and goodbye
