xtm Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Hello, My sites have been in DMOZ for a lot of years and now suddenly they have dissapear. Who can help me please to know the reason and re-submit them. Thanks.
jimnoble Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 We don't discuss individual websites here. I can write generally though. Websites are removed from the live directory for several reasons. - They aren't the sorts of websites that we list. - They become unavailable. These will be re-evaluated by an editor and might be re-listed. - They have moved to or are in transit to a different category. This can take time but they should reappear at their destination eventually. Please note that no website is entitled to a permanent listing here.
xtm Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 Where do I have to write my post and explain it please?
jimnoble Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 We don't have any mechanism within ODP for answering such questions.
xtm Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 ? There is no way to contact somebody and explain what has happened trying to get an explanation?
jimnoble Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 There is no way to contact somebody and explain what has happened trying to get an explanation? Not really no. One of the reasons I gave in post 2 will apply and you should be able to work out which it must be. We advise editors not to reply to messages from website owners. Such conversations often end badly and have sometimes included threats of violence and even stalking incidents. Volunteers don't need that sort of hassle.
xtm Posted May 17, 2008 Author Posted May 17, 2008 Sorry to insist but... I'm sorry to insist but is there anyway to know what's wrong with my website after more than 3 years to be in DMOZ and without making any change be desapeared? I have tried to submit it again and it doesn't go on-line. How can I know the reason of this change please?
jimnoble Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I'm sorry to insist There's no point repeatedly asking the same question when you've already been told that we aren't going to answer it. Please stop it.
xtm Posted May 31, 2008 Author Posted May 31, 2008 Confusion between two sites If it's not possible to list a site because it was reported by mistake of a dmoz editor as a doorway of another site, how can we advise of this mistake if our section don't have any editor assigned? we don't know how to solve this problem, thanks a lot for your help.
Meta pvgool Posted May 31, 2008 Meta Posted May 31, 2008 As has been mentioned previously [thread reference moved because threads were combined] There's no point repeatedly asking the same question when you've already been told that we aren't going to answer it. Please stop it. The only thing you can do is solve the problem on the website that made us believe it was a doorway and than resuggest it. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
xtm Posted May 31, 2008 Author Posted May 31, 2008 As has been mentioned previously The only thing you can do is solve the problem on the website that made us believe it was a doorway and than resuggest it. There is no problem and it's not a doorway, it was submited again and rejected automatically because it's marked as a doorway by mistake, who can check it and solve this problem please.
motsa Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 it was submited again and rejected automatically because it's marked as a doorway by mistakeHow do you know that?
xtm Posted May 31, 2008 Author Posted May 31, 2008 Confusion between to sites How do you know that? Because another editor has checked that information of my site in DMOZ and that's what is reported of it. It's a confusion because in the past it was a relationship between those to sites but now we are two different bussiness with no relationship, can you help me please?
spectregunner Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I really wish you would tell us a consistent story. First you claim to have no idea why your site is not listed, and then you claim to have insider information from an unnamed editor. Who can help me please to know the reason but is there anyway to know what's wrong with my website Because another editor has checked that information of my site in DMOZ and that's what is reported of it.
xtm Posted June 1, 2008 Author Posted June 1, 2008 I really wish you would tell us a consistent story. First you claim to have no idea why your site is not listed, and then you claim to have insider information from an unnamed editor. First I did not understand why our site was deleted after so many years being in DMOZ, nobody explained me what happened but at the end one editor checked DMOZ information about my site and he told me that another editor marked my site as a doorway of another website. The story is that we had a relationship in the past with this other website but now we are different bussines with no relationship (you can check it). I went to DMOZ to change the description of our website when we seperated our bussiness and then DMOZ deleted it and marked my site as a doorway. I have tried to submited it again and nobody is checking it because it's marked as a doorway. This is the story. Who can help me please and check it again and delete the mark of doorway. Thank you very much for your help.
motsa Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 All you can do is suggest your site and include a note to editors about the change in relationship in square brackets [like this] at the end. After that, it's in the hands of the reviewing editors.
xtm Posted June 1, 2008 Author Posted June 1, 2008 Confusion between two sites... Ooops! Yesterday I suggested my site again but in the description I wrote the note explaining the problem, do you think I must do it again or I wait:icon_ques
chaos127 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 nobody is checking it because it's marked as a doorway. The possible ways in which a site could be "marked as a doorway" are not permanent and only act as a warning note to editors. When reviewing your site, they should check that the note is still accurate before accepting it blindly. If an editor believes that such a note has been made in error or no longer applies, there is a place where they can bring this up internally for an editor with the correct permissions to remove or adjust the note. (When we review sites, we go by the information that's available on the site. If that isn't clear or causes confusion, you can see how mistakes might happen.)

Ok, then I wait after my suggestion of yesterday. Do you know how long it could take the review of my site in a category where there is no editor assigned? Top: Shopping: Antiques and Collectibles: Figurines (232) and how I'd know if it's not acepted again and the reason of it? Thanks for this aclarations.
motsa Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I'm afraid the only answer is that it takes as long as it takes -- it could be days or it could be years. You will not receive notification of any kind when it's reviewed.

You will not receive notification of any kind when it's reviewed. Then if I wont have any notification, when do you suggest to submit it again?

I don't know the editor and I have no way to contact him, who can help me please? Trying to do a better DMOZ...... Xavi
