Guest Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 I have just resubmitted a request to become an editor of http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Home_Improvement/Cabinets/Custom-made/ I only submitted the first request a couple of days ago, but in reading all of the forum posts, I've realized that I needed to do the URL submissions differently. Could somebody please delete my first request(the user name I submitted the first time was "woodshop") and just let my second request be considered? Thanks to anyone who can assist me with this. I'd hate to be rejected based on that first request. :/images/dmoz/purplegrin.gif Angela
thehelper Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 I don't think you can have 2 applications in the que at a time so if it let you apply again your other application might have already been dealt with. Good Luck!
Guest Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 To my great embarassment, I have just re-read the description of the category I want to edit. It is only for sites that offer ONLINE ordering of custom cabinets. Of the three example URL's I used, only one of them offers online ordering and the online ordering feature seems to not be working right now! Am I a lost cause? The URL descriptions were alright (in my opinion) but I'm certain that none of them belonged on the application. If the person who gets my request to become an editor reads this, please let me know if I should resubmit again (how shameful) or if the principal of the URL descriptions is sufficient. Angela
Meta hutcheson Posted June 21, 2002 Meta Posted June 21, 2002 >>Am I a lost cause? Quite possibly not: at least you've demonstrated some ability to read category charters and learn the taxonomy. Try again...no prejudice, if the prior application is remembered, the fact that the new one is better will be all the more apparent.
Guest Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 Thanks for the support. It isn't allowing me to resubmit, so the application may still be in the que. Could someone please delete it for me? I'd like to submit a correct application and I also believe I've found a more appropriate category to assist with(http://dmoz.org/Arts/Crafts/Woodcraft/Woodworking/Organizations/). Thank you all for your assistance. Angela
hildea Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 There are no applications in the queue for the cat you mentioned, so you can go ahead and reapply. /images/icons/smile.gif Regards, Hilde
Guest Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 Still no luck, it's asking me to fill out the form completely, and I've checked it over completely, so perhaps there is some other obstacle. Do I have to use the same username I already have for this forum (Angela)? Maybe that's the problem. Angela
totalxsive Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 No, this forum is completely separate from the ODP, and will therefore have no effect.
Guest Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 I am not a Meta, so cant see the applications. It is my understanding that only 1 application can be in progress at once from an applicant. Once you apply for a category you should recieve an auto respond email which you MUST reply to. This confirms your eMail address and adds the application to the queue to be looked at by a Meta for approval. If you don't reply I think that the application is still pending waiting for verification, but not in the review queue. (punch *here* if I'm wrong). So firstly did you recieve a confirmation email? Secondly did you follow the directions to reply? I believe in the past some 'free' email addresses have had problems receiving the confirmation email, but am unsure if this is still true. Hope it all works out Ciao
Guest Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 I rejected the app last night as requested. I sent some feedback too. Check the email you gave when submitting that application. I thought you'd have received it already.
Guest Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 To my pleasure, I have now received both denials, so all should be clear for me to move ahead. But when I enter the new information I still get "Application Incomplete There was a problem with your form: Please fill out the form completely. Please go back in your browser and resubmit the form. " I've checked everything again. (Maybe there's a limit of two goof ups!) I sure appreciate everyone's patience with this. Could someone look into it when they get a chance? The cat I'm applying to is http://dmoz.org/Arts/Crafts/Woodcraft/Woodworking/Organizations/ Or, if it's just a glitch with the form submittal I'd be glad to email the form to someone. (I've saved the text with my answers) Thanks.
Meta theseeker Posted June 22, 2002 Meta Posted June 22, 2002 There are some signs that there are problems with the newapp form. This happens from time to time. It may take a few days to sort it out and get it working again. Once I know it is, I'll try to post here again to let you know. >>if it's just a glitch with the form submittal I'd be glad to email the form to someone<< We don't have any way to approve someone without going through the normal form. But saving the answers was a good idea. /images/icons/smile.gif
Guest Posted June 24, 2002 Posted June 24, 2002 Good news! The newapp form is working. And more good news for applying editors - there is a new autorespond that is quite nice. After you reply to the initial "opendir - xyz" message to confirm your email address, you receive another little email: "Open Directory editor application received Thanks for applying to become an editor! You will receive a reply as soon as your application has been reviewed." I don't think that used to happen (but I could be wrong). It's a nice feature to inform you that they received your reply, plus it's rather polite. Angela
Meta hutcheson Posted June 24, 2002 Meta Posted June 24, 2002 >>I don't think that used to happen .. That didn't use to happen. dmoz.org: Not a bad website for one programmer, eh?
beebware Posted July 1, 2002 Posted July 1, 2002 Thinking about it, that happened when I became an editor... That's back in the Newhoo days as well! I am aware it has 'broken' from time to time though, but that's the ODP hamsters for you. Good luck on your app!
