PromisChris Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 After my request for moving my site to another sub-category the site is no longer listed in the old sub-category but does not appear yet in the requested sub-category or any other where it possibly fits. It's somewhere in mid-air:) Is there a time gap during such transitions? Thanks.
motsa Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 If the editor who moves your site to another category doesn't have editing privileges in the new category, then the site has to wait there for an editor who does have privileges to re-review it.
jimnoble Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 It all depends upon the reviewing editor's permissions. If s/he agrees the move and can also edit at the destination, the move can be pretty instant. Most editors avoid delisting listable websites and would usually seek help from a more senior editor if they didn't have permissions at the destination. There are three possibilities. 1. The site was re-evaluated, deemed unlistable and removed. 2. The site was moved to a different category than the one you requested. 3. The site is awaiting evaluation at the destination category. Our search can be a week or so behind the live directory - the date's at the bottom of the search results page.. Wait a couple of weeks before searching for domain.tld without any http or www prefixes.
PromisChris Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 Many thanks for the reply Jimnoble. I don't think it could be case nr. 1 as I would expect to get some kind of a message explaining why it was dropped. In any case I believe there is no cause for this, as the site got better, not worse, but then of course it's only my opinion. However, if it was actually dropped, is there some sort of an appeal mechanism? Thanks
Meta pvgool Posted July 20, 2008 Meta Posted July 20, 2008 I don't think it could be case nr. 1 as I would expect to get some kind of a message explaining why it was dropped. Your expectations are false. There is no message send when a site is removed or rejected. In any case I believe there is no cause for this, as the site got better, not worse, but then of course it's only my opinion. As you asked for a move yourself I guess option 3 (waiting for review) is the most probable. However, if it was actually dropped, is there some sort of an appeal mechanism? Sorry, there isn't. Our guidelines about which sites we lime to list and which be don't are publicaly available. So anyone can read the reasosn why a site is not listed. As these guidelines have changed over the years it is possible that a site was listable some years ago but isn't anymore today. And as written on http://www.dmoz.org/add.html In addition, a site's placement in the directory is subject to change or deletion at any time at our sole discretion. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
PromisChris Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 Thanks for the info pvgool. I requested the move because it was out of place in that category. It would look bad both for the site and the ODP. In fact the site started as regional and was properly placed for the last 4-5 years but during this year it went global listing real estate sold or rented by owners from more than 80 countries and almost 4000 registered users from these countries. Therefore the listing under the small town in the small country, as it was, no longer serves anybody.
jimnoble Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 You might find it helpful to read our Real Estate Guidelines.
PromisChris Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 Thanks again Jimnoble. I've read them and I am glad to say that I have no worries:) All the guidelines are well satisfied by our website and much more. ODP guidelines are guidelines for anyone who wants to provide a useful experience to the web community and the world in general. Furthermore, like you, we believe in "human eyes" so everything listed is only activated after being reviewed by our editors. Only in our case the are not, I must say, volunteers - and probably you are well aware how much good editors cost these days! All the best.
