.wired Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 You can see the question in the title. Does anyone know, how many categories DMOZ have? I'd verry interested in that ( and I hope, that was the correct forum? ) Greetings .wired
Meta pvgool Posted September 28, 2008 Meta Posted September 28, 2008 The exact number is a little bit difficult to determine. On the dmoz homepage it is stated as "over 590,000 categories" For exact numbers you would have to download our RDF file and count the categories. But by the time you have done the counting the actual numbers will have changed already as the directory is a constantly changing environment. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
Meta windharp Posted September 28, 2008 Meta Posted September 28, 2008 I don't have current figures at hand. For technical reasons (which are connected to the crash in 2006) we didn't have ODP Status Reports since 2006, when the last one said the ODP had 718201 categories. From my experience I would say the current number has not changed very much. New categories have been created, and some projects have removed a number of superfluous ones in the meantime. But - as pvgool stated - without checking the RDF, there currently is no way of knowing the exact number. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Editall/Catmv dmclean Posted September 28, 2008 Editall/Catmv Posted September 28, 2008 The RDF dump on 27 August 2008 contained 754047 categories. Daniel
