karim Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Hi All, My actual description is wrongly submitted. Now i want to edit the description as soon as possible and i would like to change its category also. Can any dmoz editor help me out from this? Is that task can be done only by dmoz editors? or can we do? Regards, karim
spectregunner Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Changing categories is only done by editors, bu the editors are willing to listen to a suggestion from you. Go to the category where your site is listed, follow the Update URL link and suggest the new category. You do the same thing for the description. A few cautions: description writing is not a collaborative effort. Editors write descriptions to comply with the guidelines. The fact that you may not like a description is not reason to change it. Most editors will only consider a description change if the current description is demonstrably incorrect. Vanity and or keyword-based requests often get tossed. Rightly so! ----- Take my advice with a grain of salt, I am a retired editall and no longer actively edit here.
Editall/Catmv makrhod Posted October 21, 2008 Editall/Catmv Posted October 21, 2008 Spectregunner's advice is absolutely correct, if your site is already listed. However, if you mean that your site was suggested to the wrong category, or that you now realise you could have written a description closer to the editing guidelines, then you are very welcome to suggest it again, once. If you do that, it might be a good idea to put a note at the end of your description, [in square brackets like this], explaining that your previous suggestion was in error. FAQ about becoming a volunteer ODP editor. I edit for the ODP and support those guidelines at all times, but my opinions are my own.
karim Posted October 21, 2008 Author Posted October 21, 2008 My site consist of security products to internet. The description should be "Security Point® Scanner - Analyzes a company's Internet security through the internet with their own SP Scanner security tool". But by mistake it was entered as [security Point® Scanner - Analyzes a company's Internet security through the internet with their own SPScanner security tool] And it is in [Computers: Security: Internet: Services: Security Scanning] where as i could a better category. [Computers: Security: Internet: Products and Tools: Security Scanners] Please help in doing these to modifications. How should u get in touch with editors. Does these modification could lead to removal of listing.
