Guest trends Posted June 11, 2003 Posted June 11, 2003 I believe we submitted to the Shopping Category. We submitted 3 or more months ago. We also sent an email to DMOZ but never received a reply. That was about one month ago.

It has been waiting awhile then, as we subdivided that category, um, several years ago. You might consider submitting again, to the one most specific shopping sub-sub-sub-category it would be suitable for.

Guest trends Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 Yes, you are correct in that our site was developed by Emerchantclub. However, it is not an MLM site as you described. If you would thoroughly review, probably 90%, of the online stores listed through ODP do business in the same manner as we do. We are tied into the inventory system in only one case, SMC. However, we deal with many manufacturers and distributors across the country and import products as well. It looks as though we have been penalized due to the relationship with SMC, which is not really fair. Additionally, we submitted to ODP approximately four months ago, added the DMOZ link and heard nor saw anything until yesterday 06/11/03. We have contacted the webmaster over a month ago, no reply. We have re-submitted as instructed (on forum) to yesterday. We received error messages and were told to contact the webmaster with the error log. We did that. No reply. Meta kokopeli Posted June 12, 2003 Meta Posted June 12, 2003 ODP lists sites with unique content, a store where the majority of products are SMC (with thousands and thousands of other sites out there selling the same MLM products) is not unique. It is not to say the products are bad, but that category usually gets at least 10 SMC sites submitted daily--the content is in no way unique and therefore cannot be listed. If we listed your site in spite of the fact SMC sites are submitted in huge numbers daily, we would have to list all of them which would mean more than 50% of the sites in General Merchandise (if not more) would contain a majority of SMC products. That wouldn't be offering unique content to the visitor, it is for that reason it is cannot be considered for a listing. Thank you, Your site was not waiting in the queue in the category you gave when I checked, nor was there any record of it having been submitted or deleted from anywhere. In addition, editors are volunteer and are not required to email back. The error message you describe is discussed at FYI: Submission Troubles -- Please Read! and as you may or may not be aware ODP is a free directory where the majority of people who work on it are volunteer. As the servers are being upgraded and the error message you received is frequent, I imagine many errors have been reported. It is just not practical to expect a response to each report.

Since we have many distributors and access to many products aside from SMC products, and since we spend a lot of time servicing our customers and improving the quality of our store and our product selection, we would really love the opportunity to be listed through DMOZ.
