How do you appeal or get another editor to look at your submission

Hi All.

 

I submitted my site to the directory a few months ago and its still not been listed and I don't understand why. I know it can take a while ect and the editors are volunteers etc which I understand and appreciate but another site that launched after mine has been listed, so the editor has to be active.

 

My sites well designed and has lots of information on it. I've even found that I've been listed on the Best of the Web directory without paying for the submission myself so if I've manage to get listed on there for free I would presume they think my site is quality yet I'm not listed in DMOZ.

 

All I can think this is down to is that the editor of the category has a site in compertion with mine which is why its not getting listed. What can I do about this. Any suggestions would be appricated

Site launch date and quality has nothing to do with when an editor will review a site or how listable a site will be found to be once an editor does look at it.

But when you submit a site dosn't it go into a date order que.

 

I know a editor has been active as the page has been updated in the last month and like I said a newer site has been listed in the mean time.

No.

 

A suggestion goes into a pool of unreviewed sites for that topic (or "category"). (Each category has its own pool, just like each category has "search" buttons.)

 

So editors work on categories, not sites. The point of the exercise is to build a good, useful category--not to list websites. (A list of websites is only one of the things a category needs!) But when an editor is looking for websites to list, the pool is conveniently there as a possible aid. Nobody has to use it--each editor may have a different way of searching for good websites. Since the pool is not always much help, it's not always the first place an editor looks.

 

This is a confusing concept, but it's important to understand. Editors don't work on site suggestions. Editors work on building a directory. Site suggestions are there because they MAY help. If an editor thinks the suggestions might help, he can look at them. If another editor thinks there's a better way of finding sites, he can do that.

 

It's sort of like this. A mechanic has a whole cabinetload of tools. He uses tools. But his job is not to use tools, but to fix cars. If the car is fixed without using a 3/8" pipe wrench, then the pipe wrench will go unused, and everyone's happy. But he doesn't throw the pipe wrench away: he leaves it in the bottom of the toolbin until someone comes in with a Stanley Steamer desperately needing new plumbing.

 

Suggestions are tools. They're used when they're useful, not a set number of days after they're acquired.

I often cherry pick.

 

If I'm working in a category for a limited time, I'll scan the pool and process first the ones where the suggester has made some attempt to write a proper title and description - because the suggester is trying to help me.

 

OTOH, long strings of keywords or hype make me shy away. It's fairly common that a spammy listing suggestion is applied to a spammy website that doesn't meet our site selection guidelines anyway.

 

Some 'popular' categories are so spam laden that it's no pleasure working there - so many editors prefer to plough more fertile ground.

That is a great analogy...you guys should use that type of explanation in the FAQ. It brings the process back to the big picture.

Actually I wanted to make a new thread. I did not know how to do that. So I am plunging in here. Forgive me for my lack of experience.

 

I made a submission to d moz of my following web site

Date submitted was 26 07 08

 

I made my submission after 3 months once again, but I do not remember the date.

 

Can some one tell me the status of my web site? I shall be most grateful for helping me out.

No (as mentioned). However, the submittal policies do tell how often you can suggest a site (up to twice). After that, the status of the suggestion has no practical application (at least, so far as the directory is concerned.)

 

In other words, since there's nothing else you're allowed to do to promote the site under any circumstances, knowing the exact circumstances doesn't give you any new information about what not to do.
