I submitted the URLs in November of last year. How do I find out why it was never listed? Top: Shopping: Clothing: Formal Wear: Men's http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Formal_Wear/Men%27s/ http://www.gingiss.com http://www.garystuxshops.com http://www.jeffreymorton.com Thank you and I hope you can be assitance. Maybe we were rejected and never notified? Also, what causes a web site to be rejected? Can you pass along a help URL? I just submitted the URLs a second time tonight before writing this. Could you check to make sure you received them?
motsa Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 http://www.gingiss.com/ isn't a Shopping site, it's a tuxedo rental site. So is http://www.garystuxshops.com/ . I can't connect to http://www.jeffreymorton.com/ so I have no idea if it is the same type of site or not. Shopping is for sites that are actually selling things remotely, not clothing rental shops. All three sites are still waiting in that category but will just end up being shifted to a more appropriate place whenever someone has a chance to do it. That's likely going to be awhile. Alternatively, you could look for more appropriate categories yourself and resubmit the sites there.

We rent tuxedos but we also sell tuxedos. How can I prove that to you? Search the store locator for 60612 to see a commerce sale right now for Gingiss.com. Visit the homepage for GarysTuxShops.com and look towards the bottom right to see a commerce sale offered online today. Enter zip code 30302 on the homepage of Gingiss.com to view a retail special in Atlanta GA. JeffreyMorton is a sales tool. JeffreyMorton.com is an online catalog for customers to view our products online they can order from our Van Nuys plant. I now understand why your editor is rejecting us. Gingiss.com, GarysTuxShops.com, and JeffreyMorton rent and sell tuxedos. Being listed under men's formal wear is crucial for our business. http://www.jeffreymorton.com is online. What ISP are you using?

To be listed in shopping you would need to be selling a product online, provide specific information such as prices and a way to purchase the product through your website (be that via the phone, secure server, etc). I just checked, too - I was unable to buy (or maybe rent) anything online, at least on the first of the sites. I could reach the third site, maybe it was a temporary glitch or something. [Damned. And you don't have a catagory for tuxedo rental. This is where Yahoo put Gingiss.com on their directory. Alucard Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 So these businesses are not Businesses dealing with Men's Clothing for Consumers? From what I have read here those sites would fit that category very well. You will also notice that there are several other formal wear businesses listed in that category. I don't think that trying to appeal how the whole Shopping branch of the ODP is set up would get very much result, as it's specifically designed for online shopping.

As none of the sites offer Online ordering, which is a requirement for a listing in the Shopping tree of the directory, the most appropriate topical branch is Business. The category you mentioned is the most specific category in that branch of the directory which fits those sites. If there were enough formal wear sites to warrant a subcategory, then one would be created under that category. That is the way that the Open Directory works. The best thing you can do now is to wait until editors come by to review these sites. If they are suitable for listing (and I am not familiar enough with those branches of the tree to judge that), they will be dealt with as a volunteer editor gets to them. I suggest you come back in at least a month to get an update, if they haven't been listed by then. Thanks very much.

When guys attend cruises, conventions, and high school prom, they shop for tuxedo rentals. People shop for tuxedo rentals. I'm very impressed with ODP. This is great news.

We're just trying to explain to you how our Shopping section operates (which may or may not be similar to how Yahoo runs their same section) and why these sites don't meet our requirements for listing there.
