graham Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 I submitted 3 weeks ago, but I received several errors while trying to do so. I just wanted to make sure that my submission got through.
brmehlman Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 Submitted to what category? Please provide a clickable link as described in the thread above titled "READ BEFORE POSTING".
graham Posted June 12, 2003 Author Posted June 12, 2003 I apologize. http://dmoz.org/Computers/Hardware/Storage/
Meta kokopeli Posted June 12, 2003 Meta Posted June 12, 2003 Sorry, but it isn't in that category. If you are sure that was where you submitted, I would submit again. On the bright side, it is good you checked.
graham Posted June 12, 2003 Author Posted June 12, 2003 I just tried about 5 times, and I got the same error I got 3 weeks ago although I eventually did get a confirmation page. Here is the error I am getting. Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@dmoz.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log
Meta nea Posted June 12, 2003 Meta Posted June 12, 2003 Yes, this is a known problem — there is some information about it in http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=submissions&Number=29160&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=21&fpart=1 . However, if you did get the confirmation page eventually, your submission should have made it through Curlie Meta and kMeta editor nea
graham Posted June 12, 2003 Author Posted June 12, 2003 Well after about 100 attempts (literally). I finally got a a Submission Received page. Did that one make it, and if so how long should I wait to check back on status? thanks
Meta kokopeli Posted June 12, 2003 Meta Posted June 12, 2003 Oh my! This time it looks like 15-20 made it through....you can stop submitting now!!! I'll delete all but one. The cat itself is pretty backed up, so it will likely be awhile before your site is reviewed.
graham Posted June 12, 2003 Author Posted June 12, 2003 I did the same thing last time so is it possible that my submission was just deleted b/c so many entries got through?
Meta kokopeli Posted June 12, 2003 Meta Posted June 12, 2003 No, because I looked at the editor notes and no submissions for that site were ever deleted. It is possible I imagine that you got snagged by the spam filter last time and it is sitting in a manual category waiting to be moved. That is the only way it could still be pending. Otherwise, it is just due to the errors we have been encountering. Pretty soon the upgrade will be done and things will be easier. I will also mention that when I deleted the duplicates I made a note that it wasn't spam and that the large number of submissions were due to a submitting error. I definately left one, also, so no need for concern.
graham Posted June 12, 2003 Author Posted June 12, 2003 Ok thanks again for your help, and should I wait 1 month to check on the status?
Meta kokopeli Posted June 12, 2003 Meta Posted June 12, 2003 I would give it 2 or three, there are close to 200 sites in that category waiting to be reviewed so it will likely be awhile.
graham Posted August 7, 2003 Author Posted August 7, 2003 Hello it's been just about 2 months and I wanted to check on the status again. thanks
uzs980 Posted August 7, 2003 Posted August 7, 2003 Your site is still waiting for review, and the heap of sites doing the same in the same category is still large. I'm sorry not to have better news. But feel free two check back after another month or two. In the mean, you may also submit your site to Regional: North America: United States: Texas: Localities: G: Graham: Business and Economy. Your site might be listed in both categories in the end, and this category isn't backlogged at all. Yours, Robert
graham Posted September 8, 2003 Author Posted September 8, 2003 Just checking back a month later to see if there is any update. thanks
graham Posted September 9, 2003 Author Posted September 9, 2003 Just checking back to see if there has been any progress. thanks
pnm Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 It's still waiting in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Hardware/Storage/ . It's probably going to be a while :-( so I'd suggest waiting at least a couple months before checking back.
graham Posted November 5, 2003 Author Posted November 5, 2003 Well it has been about 2 months later so I just wanted to check on the status again. thanks
thehelper Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 It is still waiting. Did you take the advice of submitting to the appropriate Regional category as well? You can be listed in both places and the Regional category submission likely would be processed faster due to the backlog in the category you are currently waiting in.
graham Posted November 5, 2003 Author Posted November 5, 2003 Any idea of the timeline or when I should check back? Should I try to contact the editor?
Meta nea Posted November 5, 2003 Meta Posted November 5, 2003 Any idea of the timeline I'm sorry, but there is no way anybody could know how long it will take for a site to be reviewed. It could happen in a few days or after a year or more. or when I should check back? That is up to you if you want to do as long as you leave at least one month between checks. Should I try to contact the editor? You could, but it is by no means certain that you'll get a response. Editors get hate email and worse from submitters and for that reason they are not encouraged to respond to inquiries - which is one reason this forum exists. In any case, there are several editors who can edit in that category, and sooner or later one of them will come by and take care of some unreviewed sites. It's just not possible to tell when it will be. Sorry not to be able to be more specific. Curlie Meta and kMeta editor nea
graham Posted December 8, 2003 Author Posted December 8, 2003 Hello I just wanted to check back 6 months later to see if there is an update. I also submitted to Regional: North America: United States: Texas: Localities: G: Graham: Business and Economy last month so can I also check on that here or do I need to start a new thread?
thehelper Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 You are still waiting in the Storage category with little or no change. You are also waiting in the Regional category and your submission is the only one waiting in that category.
graham Posted January 8, 2004 Author Posted January 8, 2004 Checking back at 7 months to see if there is an update on http://dmoz.org/Computers/Hardware/Storage/. FYI, I've been added to the regional category. thanks
