So I've been trying to get a site listed on dmoz for a few months and haven't received anything back. I tried to send an email to the site editor yesterday and it looks like the script died.

tried to email bushguy from:

http://www.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/send.cgi?toeditor=bushguy

message:

Hey Ricky,

I've been trying to get a site listed on dmoz for months without success. Hopefully you can let me know what I'm doing wrong.

The site I'm trying to get listed is:

<url removed>

Can you help me get this listed?

Thanks in advance

mike

Looks like it bombed...

Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

The proxy server could not handle the request POST /cgi-bin/send2.cgi.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

I sent a message in to abuse yesterday because it was the only form of contact I could find. The case was closed, I didn't hear anything back, and the script is still dying.

Any help is appreciated.

Here's a copy of the email you were sent as the abuse report was being determined.

Thanks for your abuse report. Our servers have a systematic problem which AOL's sysops are aware of. Despite the error message to the sender, emails usually get through - often 6 or 7 times as folks retry.

It was sent via the email client on my home computer BTW, not our servers.

Note that we discourage editors from replying because the ensuing conversation often ends badly.

Thanks for reporting the problem. I will pass the information on to Operations staff who will take a look at the problem.

I did try sending myself a feedback using the same method and received the same error message, however the feedback did arrive.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid I was sending it multiple times so I stopped after 3... The error does look terminal!

I guess I checked the status of the abuse message as it was being looked at. Still haven't gotten an email about it though. That's why I kept digging until I found this forum.

Getting a site listed on dmoz is hard!

thanks again,

mike
