Tammie Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Hi Expert, I am trying to email the category's editor to check why my site is not listed. Unfortunately, the email editor function is NOT working. Please advise how can I ask DMOZ to fix the bug as well as the way to check why my site is not listed. Thanks The URL: http://www.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/send.cgi?toeditor={some editor name} Error Message: Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request POST /cgi-bin/send2.cgi. Reason: Error reading from remote server
Meta shadow575 Posted April 24, 2009 Meta Posted April 24, 2009 The error appears to be a known issue, I am not sure what is being done (if anything) at the moment to correct the message. However the messages do appear to be getting delivered. At least the two test messages I sent to myself made it to my in box, despite my getting the same error you are reporting. That being said, most editors will not respond to personal feedbacks regarding specific site suggestions. So don't be surprised if you don't receive any response. If you have suggested your site to the directory, we all thank you for your help. Eventually someone will review the suggestion and make a determination of whether its listable or not. When you suggested your site you should have seen the confirmation page thanking you for your suggestion. That is generally all the feedback you will get. If your site is listable it will eventually show up in the category. However with the volunteer environment and limited editor resources, there is no way to predict when a review will take or by whom. The presence of a editor name at the bottom of the category doesn't indicate that the editor is active in that category at the moment. Editors can edit in any category they have permissions in, this can include many branches and sub-categories without their editor name attached. It also does not indicate the only editor who might be working in a given category, as any editor with sufficient privileges there can choose to edit anytime they are interested in doing so. It is also important to remember (even though its repeated over and over), there is no listing service with DMOZ. Site suggestions while always appreciated and welcomed, are but only one resource editors use to find and include sites. In many categories the site suggestions are so diluted by junk suggestions and spam, that they become a very unreliable resource for quality listings. Editors in these areas often will result to mucking around in the suggestions only after other resources have been exhausted. Hope this helps. Shadow *The opinions I offer are my own and may not represent the opinions of Curlie.org or other editors.* It can take anywhere from two hours to several years for a site review to take place. I do not respond to private messages requesting site status checks. _______________________________________________ https://shadow575.wordpress.com/
