Good day. I have submitted some of my sites on numerous occasions and have taken every precaution to make sure they are in the correct category.

They never get listed though. I was just wondering, how can I go about finding out what the reason behind this might be?

You can check whether or not a website is listable for yourself at http://www.dmoz.org/guidelines/include.html .

If it's listable, some editor will list it in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Time scales range from a few days to a few years.

Please remember that we aren't a website listing service. We're just a bunch of hobbyists building a directory for the pleasure, fun and satisfaction of doing so.

Hehe. I like your reply! I do understand the fact that you are hobbyists and appreciate the effort you make.

I have read through the guidelines and have made sure my sites conform to the standards. It has been over a year now, possibly more.

Maybe there is no editor for my area? Eastern Cape, South Africa.

There is no reason for not listing a site. Not listing is a non-event, it doesn't need a cause.

Listing a site is an event. It requires an ultimate cause and a proximate cause. The only acceptable ultimate cause is "site contains significant unique information". The proximate cause is "an editor was building categories and noticed the site."

I don't know what subjects you've been building sites on. I do know, however, that they weren't the subjects I've been looking for content on.

So who's focusing on the wrong subject? You, or the ODP editors?

The question is meaningless. Everyone's working on what they think is important. And the results are on the net for whoever else is interested.

There may indeed be no editor actively looking to build up the South African categories--nobody really tracks editor activity that way, so we really don't know.

Phew, thats a mouthful.

The sites I have been submitting is for web development, a blog or two and on one occasion even a golf estate property site.

Anyhow, thanks for the reply, still not sure why the sites aren't in the directory but I get the idea I never will be.
