The fact that affiliate sites are currently listed is only abuse if the editor who listed them did so to gain personally in some way. Many affiliate sites have been added in the past because it was not clear to the reviewing editor that they were affiliates - there is currently an ongoing effort to remove hotel booking affiliates from dmoz.

What you describe may not be abuse, but it still makes the directory look bad. Thanks for mentioning them--and providing the investigation hint--and I'm sure (when we have our editing powers back) someone will look at them.
