RentYourview Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Trouble Replying to confirmation email I am having trouble replying to the confirmation email. I got the following email after I submitted my website and received the following email: INSTRUCTIONS - please read and follow carefully. To complete your application process, please reply to this message. This will confirm that we have your correct email address. Do not change the Subject: line -- it contains your registration key. When I reply I get this message after a while: The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is: apply@dmoz.org Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data: host mailin-01.mx.aol.com [64.12.137.169]: 421-: (DNS:NR) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421dnsnr.html 421 SERVICE NOT AVAILABLE No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up, and when that happens, the message will be returned to you. What should I do?
RZ Admin Elper Posted October 3, 2009 RZ Admin Posted October 3, 2009 Could you post the key (starts with opendir) which is in the subject line? You can try resending the mail - there should be more positive reply, and not a mail error if it works. This time it looks like our mailservers have a dns error - from another aol server elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.

alamara Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Problem with apllication Hi, I am having a problem which is quiet strange, i have tried a couple of times to apply as an editor but what happens is that when i receive the application received email and when i reply back with keeping the subject line intact then i receive a mail immediately saying this *** ATTENTION *** Your e-mail is being returned to you because there was a problem with its delivery. The address which was undeliverable is listed in the section labeled: "----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----". The reason your mail is being returned to you is listed in the section labeled: "----- Transcript of Session Follows -----". The line beginning with "<<<" describes the specific reason your e-mail could not be delivered. The next line contains a second error message which is a general translation for other e-mail servers. Please direct further questions regarding this message to your e-mail administrator. --AOL Postmaster ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <apply@dmoz.org> (reason: 550 5.7.1 <apply@dmoz.org>... Relaying denied) ----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to editors.dmoz.org.: >>> DATA <<< 550 5.7.1 <apply@dmoz.org>... Relaying denied 550 5.1.1 <apply@dmoz.org>... User unknown <<< 503 5.0.0 Need RCPT (recipient) ----------------------------------------------------- However when i send the apllication received mail second time with the subject line intact i then receive a confirmation email saying that your application is received and an editor will review it. Now the problem is that this above situation has occured twice in 1 months time and both the times i have not received any editor response or a denial. Please can some one check and let me know if my application has reached safely or should i try again. http://www.dmoz.org/Society/Religion_and_Spirituality/Esoteric_and_Occult/Personal_Pages/ my username alamara67 password <deleted> I am confused please guide me further. Thanks, Alam Ara.
thehill Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 the Hill - did you read my solution above? Yes I did, I have replied to the email about 20 times. Including using different email clients, making sure the subject line wasnt being truncated etc etc
RZ Admin Elper Posted October 4, 2009 RZ Admin Posted October 4, 2009 @thehill 20 must be a record Your application is now queued normally, as is alamara's. elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.

cstevens Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Application Status after undeliverable email On sept 27 I submitted an application (1e2c6601c513ac64f63dd8feb5ba0008) I replied to the email to verify my address. The email was bounced back. I came here and read a bunch of other posts about people having the same issue however, in their case(s) the applications were received successfully. I didn't bother posting and just assumed that it was successfully received. I really don't know how long this is supposed to take and I know I am not allowed to post until 14 days after my application but I cannot help but wonder if my application was not received. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Champ.
RZ Admin Elper Posted October 11, 2009 RZ Admin Posted October 11, 2009 cstevens - I could not find a trace of your application; I'm sorry but I think you'll have to start over. (please keep a copy just in case, and also let us know promptly if you get a mail error again) thehill - I'm looking into your attempt to break the denied mail record Just to add, in case it isn't clear from all the above, all the volunteer editors get just as frustrated and annoyed as the victims when there is an ongoing issue like this one... elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.
RZ Admin Elper Posted October 11, 2009 RZ Admin Posted October 11, 2009 thehill - the 30th try succeeded, your application is queued normally elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.
Mortormow Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Cofirmation e-mail bounced? Hello I just applied with an application to become an editor and I clicked on reply and I got a notice of the e-mail bouncing. Here is what was in it. To complete your application process, please reply to this message. This will confirm that we have your correct email address. Do not change the Subject: line -- it contains your registration key. I did not change the subject line and just clicked on reply and I got a bounced e-mail back. Not sure why this would happen. My e-mail address is a domain e-mail account with Gmail Business. Can somebody give me advice on how to confirm my e-mail address please. I have been checking out this forum a bit better and my problem is systemic. Everybody gets bouncing e-mails. At least for the past 2 years from what I can see. So if you are new here and see this e-mail don't complain about bouncing e-mails like I did, the problem never goes away. Solved my own question.
Editall/Catmv makrhod Posted October 12, 2009 Editall/Catmv Posted October 12, 2009 the problem never goes awayIt has been reported many times to AOL, but until they choose to fix it, there is nothing any of us can do. Sorry. I have merged your thread into the existing one about the same problem, because all of the foregoing responses and suggested solutions are still valid. FAQ about becoming a volunteer ODP editor. I edit for the ODP and support those guidelines at all times, but my opinions are my own.

RZ Admin Elper Posted October 12, 2009 RZ Admin Posted October 12, 2009 Both jennienina and Zackoo are now queued normally, thanks. Just to add that success is best measured by any response other than a mail error - if the machine can't find the ticket, it's because a previous attempt actually worked. elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.
