Guest Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 Hello. I am currently the editor of Arts: Music: Bands and Artists: C: Collins, Phil I had recently applied to edit other categories related to my interests, however, when I applied, I was told that I didn't have enough edits so I was rejected. In the category I am in, there aren't many submissions to ODP, so I really can't gain any more experience in editing. So should I resign completely from that category (even though is a huge interest) and apply for another category, or should I go out on the net and find related sites and submit them so I can get more experience? I have many interests and would like to help out in as many categories as I can. Any information anyone could provide would be appreciated.
apeuro Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 . . . should I go out on the net and find related sites and submit them so I can get more experience That's exactly what you should do. Google returns around 130,000 hits on Phil Collins, most of which aren't listed in the directory. Just for future reference, however. If you're an editor already, please use the internal ODP Forum for these kinds of questions in the future.

All of us, when we started, started in a small cat and worked our way up. Find and add sites, make sure they are described to conform to guidelines and make sure the cat is in tip top shape. We don't only look at your edits, we look at the cat you edit. If a co-editor or an editor that is no longer active didn't describe sites well it refects on you. This is especially true if you edit a small cat and are trying to move up the ladder.
Guest Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 There are a number of threads broaching this subject in the ODP's internal forums, particularly take a look at those within the New Editor's forum.
Guest Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 Thank you to everyone who responded. I wanted to make sure I could do that before I did. I check my category often and make sure the descriptions are correct according the the rules of ODP. Thanks again.
