Editall/Catmv makrhod Posted September 13, 2009 Editall/Catmv Posted September 13, 2009 Have you looked at the FAQ linked at the top of every page here? You will find your answer there. FAQ about becoming a volunteer ODP editor. I edit for the ODP and support those guidelines at all times, but my opinions are my own.
jayeats Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Any luck with your site. I have also tried for a while with no luck.
Editall/Catmv makrhod Posted September 15, 2009 Editall/Catmv Posted September 15, 2009 It's not "luck" at all. It's simply a matter of when a volunteer decides to work on finding sites to add to a category, and if they decide to look at the suggestions made by non-editors. You might reasonably call that "chance", but it's got nothing to do with "luck". There's a difference. However, please remember that the suggestions guidelines clearly warn that excessively repeated suggestions can lead to a permanent ban. So it would definitely be bad "luck" if anyone ignored that. Meta hutcheson Posted September 16, 2009 Meta Posted September 16, 2009 It's probably worth noting that most suggestions do not result in listings. No luck involved -- the editor simply didn't find any significant unique information. Which is either either bad website design (the navigation didn't clearly lead to content) or spam (the site worked as designed, but didn't offer anything a surfer couldn't get elsewhere.) There are really two hurdles to pass. A site has to be about a subject that seems under-represented on the net, so someone would be interested in improving that topic in the directory. If it doesn't pass this test, then who (apart from its owner) will care whether it lives or dies? All the world's surfers have a lifetime of online reading without it! And within that topic, the site has to stand out in some way from other sites. "Stand out" doesn't mean loud self-praise or garish colors. It means, simply, that a visitor can quickly see who built the site, what their qualifications are, and what information they provide. "What kind of information is on this site? How reliable is it?" A good answer to that question WILL stand out.
