valegal Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 My application was denied again, for apparently not disclosing all of the websites that I have been associated with. Yes, I'm a web developer, but I have only previously done back-end work for (two) sites that are password-protected and that I take no ownership of, and I see no reason to mention them in my application. I disclosed the one website I actually have actual ownership of, and is the only one I felt was worth mentioning. In any case, I think that this is a very silly reason to reject someone's application.
jimnoble Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 The proper place to have said all that was in your application but, despite previous advice, you chose not to do so. We can't read minds I'm afraid. I think that this is a very silly reason to reject someone's application. A proportion of applicants want to join us for their own ends, not to contribute to the directory, and it's not unusual for them to tell lies about their affiliations. That's why we take the answer to the associated websites question very seriously indeed. If you apply again, please do the same.
valegal Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 I just assumed that by re-applying, mentioning the same one website I own, that should have been enough. If there was something on the submission form that required me to mention sites that I have not designed nor promoted, then I would have done so. In a sense it seems that the application reviewer is trying to read minds, seeing as he/she believes that I'm hiding information. I would have loved to become an editor, but feel a bit slighted and am not sure it's worth re-submitting an identical application. Thank you though.
jimnoble Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 and am not sure it's worth re-submitting an identical applicationIt isn't. Instead, please include the information you gave in item1 above.
Editall/Catmv makrhod Posted October 7, 2009 Editall/Catmv Posted October 7, 2009 If there was something on the submission form that required me to mention sites that I have not designed nor promoted, then I would have done so. Well, the application form requests (my bolding) Please give details, including URLs, of any sites that you own or have designed or promoted, either in full or in part. Also, mention whether you have contributed content to any site, and give URLs as appropriate. In addition, the instructions on the previous page say (my bolding again) If you are a webmaster or associated with any website, please disclose this on your application. To be sure, the words "associated with" could have many meanings, but it would make sense to choose the most inclusive meaning. Besides, if that is not enough information, there is plenty more advice in the Public Guidelines about what might be considered an affiliation. FAQ about becoming a volunteer ODP editor. I edit for the ODP and support those guidelines at all times, but my opinions are my own.
