hfbvm Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I read all about Dmoz.Org and happened to know that Dmoz.org is run by a group of people. Is it possible that i can be able to contact any one of the supreme authority.
Meta windharp Posted October 18, 2009 Meta Posted October 18, 2009 DMOZ is run by AOL. If you have concerns regarding legal matters about the directory, I suggest contacting AOL directly. Decisions about editing activities are made by the editor community though. To enquire about any issues, you can use this forum. Many of the meta editors working on the directory are reading here and will be glad to assist you. To report suspected abuse, please use the abuse report system. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
RZ Admin Elper Posted October 18, 2009 RZ Admin Posted October 18, 2009 The owner or supreme authority is AOL, though they don't interfere with the day to day running of the directory, which is done entirely by volunteer editors (the same ones that run this public forum). Means of contacting AOL are on the Open Directory Project Terms of Use page ... Hope this helps elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.
Meta hutcheson Posted October 18, 2009 Meta Posted October 18, 2009 Is it possible that i can be able to contact any one of the supreme authority. Dude, you've got Roger Moore Syndrome. If not treated quickly, it causes delusions of rationality, not to mention assorted other reality-disjunction disfunctions. Get help.
hfbvm Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Who is the mainleader or admin of Dmoz.org ?
Meta Eric-the-Bun Posted October 18, 2009 Meta Posted October 18, 2009 There is no single point of authority for editing activities. Though I am a volunteer editor, my opinions do not constitute an official Curlie statement. :o I reserve the right to be human and make mistakes. :o Private messages asking for submission status or preferential treatment will be ignored.
hfbvm Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 I mean like admin or moderator who looks over all categories.
jimnoble Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I mean like admin or moderator who looks over all categories. There are around 200 of us .
hfbvm Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 It looks as if you are having more powers then others as you are admin.
Meta informator Posted October 18, 2009 Meta Posted October 18, 2009 Your questions are best answered by the documentation on dmoz.org: (http://www.dmoz.org/guidelines/) ... Would you care to say something about why you want to contact "the admin" of ODP ? Curlie (Dmoz) Meta editor informator
hfbvm Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 well i wanted to get some information regarding the sites and how to get sites listed and to help people submit their websites to proper categories etc.
Meta Eric-the-Bun Posted October 18, 2009 Meta Posted October 18, 2009 Have you tried reading the About or Help sections at the directory or the Forum FAQs ? Plenty of information there. Though I am a volunteer editor, my opinions do not constitute an official Curlie statement. :o I reserve the right to be human and make mistakes. :o Private messages asking for submission status or preferential treatment will be ignored.
Meta informator Posted October 18, 2009 Meta Posted October 18, 2009 To get an answer to questions like that you don´t need to talk to any admin or leader. Any experienced editor can answer such questions, and there are many of those in this Forum... Curlie (Dmoz) Meta editor informator
hfbvm Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 yes i have gone through the whole FAQ or Help section found on dmoz.org . But i want to know some more deeper information. In more detail. Why am i asking an admin? Because he has more experience and knows which type of requests he will like more. Maybe if somone will agree to talk to me i will be very glad
Meta Eric-the-Bun Posted October 18, 2009 Meta Posted October 18, 2009 There are 600,000 categories. No one edits in all of them. The sites all editors like are described in the guidelines. The deepest information from all the experienced editors are: a) the reason any listable site is not listed is because no editor has looked at it yet b) we do not know when an editor will look at any site c) there is no way to get a fast review d) there are better things to do with your time than trying to get a fast review. Though I am a volunteer editor, my opinions do not constitute an official Curlie statement. :o I reserve the right to be human and make mistakes. :o Private messages asking for submission status or preferential treatment will be ignored.
hfbvm Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Well i know that diff people control different categories. But i just wanted to write a n article for the people help and probably convert it into a free e-book and help both the people. So i wanted to talk to anyone or everyone. And try to write a good article.
Meta gloria Posted October 18, 2009 Meta Posted October 18, 2009 No one controls a category. Though a category may have a listed editor, every editor who is higher in the category tree can edit in that category, and about 200 editors can edit in every category.
jimnoble Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 We haven't really got anything to say other than repeat the info in the documents that have already been mentioned. We shan't be revealing any deep or dark secrets to you because there aren't any. If those documents require clarification, by all means ask.
hfbvm Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 okay if you say so but if i have some questions how can i contact you?
