zeppelin Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Hello there, Yesterday I applied for an editor account (ref: aaeea75175f632b34b4248ce151678c0) to edit a small geographical category (area I live in) in the end on sub-categories hierarchy. Not a big deal, just noticed that there are couple of dead links, also I was going to add some new urls. I've received a response today with a not nice comment from the reviewer: ========================================================= By trying to conceal your ownership of several websites, your proved that you can't be trusted. (* sounds pretty categorical...) Do not apply again. (* I believe you missed "please" Sir...) ========================================================== My full name is Oleksandr (I use Alex as a short name) and I have no relations with web-sites' copy and do not own any, I stated this in my application form. My brother's name is Oleksiy and he uses exactly the same short name, and he is an owner of couples of web-sites, NOT me! I'd like to resolve this stupid situation and ready to provide scanned copies of my and brother's ID. Please advise. Regards, Alex
Editall/Catmv makrhod Posted December 17, 2009 Editall/Catmv Posted December 17, 2009 New editor applications are reviewed only by the most experienced volunteers, many of whom have looked at many many thousands of applications. It is therefore very unlikely that the meta-editor or catmod who reviewed your application was mistaken in their interpretation, but we are all human. However, rudely accusing someone of being stupid is not an appropriate way to suggest that they may have made a mistake, particularly when it is your own name/nickname which is misleading. If your brother owns websites using the same name as yourself, you can hardly blame anyone for believing they belong to you! The requirements for disclosing affiliations are to maintain the integrity of the directory, and if an editor's name is associated with websites in a category he edits (which is perfectly acceptable), it is essential that everyone viewing that category can be sure that there is no bias or preferential treatment. As you share a name with your brother, it would surely make sense to mention that fact on an application, and then to list all the websites he owns. That would avoid any confusion. FAQ about becoming a volunteer ODP editor. I edit for the ODP and support those guidelines at all times, but my opinions are my own.
zeppelin Posted December 17, 2009 Author Posted December 17, 2009 thank you for your assistance! I appreciate that. fair enough, we are human I'll try to apply again with mentioning about my bro to avoid any further confusion. However, rudely accusing someone of being stupid is not an appropriate way to suggest that they may have made a mistake I apologise if I offended anyone, honestly talking I wouldn't thought that moderator will dig this deep and just ignored the fact that I share a name with my brother (how do you deal with other namesakes? ), and reviewer comment was really categorical and with no further options... Regards, Alex
Meta windharp Posted December 17, 2009 Meta Posted December 17, 2009 how do you deal with other namesakes? Didn't happen to me during the several hundred editor applications I processed yet. Feel free to feel special Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
