Hi guys,

I submitted an application on the 26th of November 2009 and as instructed waited but received no feedback. I have a confirmation key of 325fc4a1362a5a67e187271c0e9cfc8f

Does anyone know the status of this?

Thank you very much.

I can find no trace of it.

What editor name did you request?

When you replied to the email confirmation message, you should have received an immediate acknowledgement. Did you? If so, what was it?

Until the email confirmation transaction completes, an application is invisible to us mere humans.

Incidentally, there are no pending English language applications older than 2009-12-24.

Hmm...

I've looked through my junk file at least once a week and nothing came in there. I've not received anything back.

Are you asking for my requested editor name? I think it was alexduvash but it was last decade so it's hard to remember ;)

Shall I reply to the message again? Or start the whole process again?

I think it was alexduvash
No, I already looked for that.

The servers will have eaten the ticket by now. I suggest that you start over.

Hi Jim,

I've resubmitted my application. Would you be kind enough to see if you've received the application at all? I'm not asking for the status of it, just if you've received it. The username is alexduvash.

I'm only asking because last time I left it too long and the server ate it for tea. I kept receiving an error but kept trying and I'm not sure if it's come through?

Thank you.

Your application of 22nd March was declined the same day with no specific reviewer comments. Here's a generic copy of the email that was sent.

Dear [Real Name],

Thank you for your interest in becoming an Open Directory Project editor. After careful review, we have decided not to approve your application at this time. The most common reasons a reviewer will deny a new application include, but are not limited to,

* Incomplete application. Insufficient information has been provided in some fields including reason, affiliation and/or Sample URLs.

* Improper spelling and grammar.

* Sample URLs are inappropriate for the category which one has applied to edit. They may be too broad, too narrow, completely out of scope, poor quality, or in a language inappropriate for the category. All non-English sites are listed in the World category. Applications for World categories that include sites only in English will be denied. Likewise, applications for World categories that include sample URLs in languages other than the one appropriate for the applied category will be denied.

* Not properly disclosing affiliations with websites that are, or have the potential of being, listed in the category.

* Titles and descriptions of sample URLs (and other information provided) were subjective and promotional rather than unbiased and objective. ODP editors do not rank or write website reviews. ODP editors provide objective and unbiased descriptions of websites and their content.

* Self-Promotion. Application which leads us to believe that the candidate is interested primarily in promoting his/her own sites or those with which the applicant is affiliated. The ODP is not a marketing tool, and should not be used to circumvent the site submission process. If this is an applicant's motivation for joining, then we ask him/her not to apply. Editors found to be inappropriately promoting their own site will be promptly removed.

Due to the large number of applications we get every day, we are unable to provide personal responses to every application or to respond to inquiries about why you were rejected. If a reviewer chose to provide additional comments to you, they will be given in the "Reviewer Comments" section below.

Your willingness to volunteer is greatly appreciated and perhaps we will be able to utilize your talent in the future.

Regards,

The Open Directory Project

Jim,

I applied again the next day 23rd March. I posted on here to check to see if you received my application.

Please do not tell me you didn't receive it as I only asked to avoid waiting two weeks before being told that the application wasn't received. This is what happened last time.

Ah, I was fooled by the 23rd March (I think). No, there's no sign of it ever having been passed through to us humans.

Months ago, back in item3, I asked

When you replied to the email confirmation message, you should have received an immediate acknowledgement. Did you? If so, what was it?
You didn't answer me then but perhaps you could do so now.

I can only find one application with the editor name you provided (alexduvash), that is the one made on the 22nd and rejected on the same day.

I also can not find any application for that category with a different editor name on a later date.

<added>Jim was faster with his reply. Hi Jim.

I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.

Hi guys,

Thank you for your responses.

I got a few bounce back emails when I sent it months ago. I kept sending the email and then I received no bounce back so assumed all was okay.

This email was in response to the confirmation email with the key in the header. The same thing happened with all of my applications, sent it a few times and eventually it went.

The reason I asked for a status check early was to check I didn't make the same mistake as I did last time, leaving it too long and having my application eaten by the servers. I'm afraid I have no record of the acknowledgment email. Bummer.

Have you got any advice? It would be appreciated.

Next time when replying to the email confirmation message, if you get an error message or no response at all, send the reply again.

There's more advice in the sticky standing thread on this topic.

Are you sure the March 22 application jimnoble mentioned isn't the one you're talking about? When you posted on March 25, you said you *thought* you'd applied on the March 23 and made no mention of you having applied the day prior as well. Did you actually apply on both March 22 *and* March 23?
