Hi,

I hope someone can help. I have a couple of different websites, all good quality, unique content, established 5 - 10 years old and have been listed in DMOZ for as long as I can remember.

I've now noticed that they have all been removed from the directory and I'm just after feedback as to why?

I read through the DMOZ guidelines again and my sites do still meet the criteria, they've not been offline etc. so I'm a bit stumped! DMOZ suggest contacting the editor of the category which I have done and he suggested I post here.

If I'm allowed to post my website address then one of them is; <url removed>

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

~Nacho

There are a number of reasons why a listing might be removed from the directory.

1) The website was not available for some time. It is moved out of public sight for an editor to look at the situation. When that will happen is something we do not know.

2) The website is not listable according to the current guidelines. Either the website has changed, or the guidelines have changed, or the website should never have been listed.

3) The website has been moved to a different category, and is now waiting review there.

4) It happens almost never but it is a possibilty. The owner has violated our guidelines in such a serious manner that he and all his sites are banned.

Which of these reasons (or maybe another) is for your websites is something we do not know and are not willing to investigate. Not willing is not because we do not want to help you but because we just do not have the time to give such a service to all people with websites. Sorry.

I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.

The facts, as you describe them, pretty well guarantee that, for all practical purposes, options 1, 3, and 4 can be dismissed.

At some future date, if you reconsider the ODP rules and your sites, and realize why the sites did not conform to the ODP guidelines for listable sites, and decide that for your own reasons you are making changes that (coincidentally) cause one of the sites to conform to the guidelines, you're welcome to resuggest it to your best judgment of the appropriate category.
