eugenoprea Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I understand that you do not get into details of declined appliations here, but I do not understand the reason why my application was rejected from the email I received. This is the reply I received: Re: Open Directory application - eugenoprea Request 201003105553 Dear Eugen Oprea, Thank you for your interest in becoming an Open Directory Project editor! Although we would like you to join us as a volunteer editor, you have chosen a category that is already well represented, or is broader than we typically assign to a new editor. We would encourage you to re-apply for a category that has fewer editors or is smaller in scope, in order to increase your chances of being accepted. Feel free to reapply by submitting an application in another area. If you wish to re-apply, you must fill out another application. Please do not reply to this email. Regards, The Open Directory Project Additional reviewer comments: ============================================= As you can see from this email, the reason is: "you have chosen a category that is already well represented, or is broader than we typically assign to a new editor". The category I applied for is this one: http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Internet/Site_Management/Log_Analysis/Commercial/ ...which doesn't have any editors currently and encourage visitors to "Volunteer to edit this category" So if the category doesn't have any editors, why my application was rejected with the grounds that the category "is already well represented"? Is this the real reason why my application was rejected? Thank you for you replies.
Meta mromppel Posted March 10, 2010 Meta Posted March 10, 2010 Just read the whole sentence: Quote a category that is already well represented, or is broader than we typically assign to a new editor.
eugenoprea Posted March 10, 2010 Author Posted March 10, 2010 Does 64 websites means broader? Quote Your chances of becoming an editor are greater if you apply for a small, underdeveloped category to start (generally categories with less than 100 sites). Please don't get me wrong... but I just want to volunteer and offer my expertize to the ODP and I am rejected for a reason that is not clear for me.
aaa Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Eugen, I highly recommend everyone who wants to become an ODP editor to apply for categories with fewer websites. If you are new (never been an editor with other category/ies in ODP) better is to apply for a regional category in a niche/segment where you have good knowledge and explain in details your request. You will never be approved even if a category has no listings yet if that category is broader. Judging by your name, you are Romanian and if you require assistance you can open a topic in our language: Romana.
