Guest Posted June 29, 2002 Posted June 29, 2002 Hello, Yesterday we gave incorrect description with our submission of http://rockbrothers.com to: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/P/Pompano_Beach/Business_and_Economy/ Any options available to correct this? Thank You, Richard
thehelper Posted June 29, 2002 Posted June 29, 2002 I would not worry about it that much as the description will probably be redone anyway. I would just wait until you get listed and if you see a problem with your description you can request changes using the update url function. Remember, the description you submit is just a suggestion and it will most likely be rewritten by the editor reviewing the site.
Meta arlarson Posted June 29, 2002 Meta Posted June 29, 2002 If you submit exactly the same URL to exactly the same category, the new description should replace the old in the unreviewed queue.
Guest just_browsing Posted June 30, 2002 Posted June 30, 2002 You need to sort out the links that lead to your adult sites, that are obtainable from rockbrothers.com. For example on:- http://www.rockbrothers.com/web_site_development.html "Click Here to view some of our Past and Present Web Development work " takes you to http://www.join4free.com/?wm=52008 Models need your own Web Site? Click Here for Specials : leads to the same place
Guest Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 Damn! Thanks for heads up on the bad links! We had the wrong .htaccess code also. We fixed the links, checked the rest and uploaded the proper .htaccess code which leads to http://rockbrothers.com At what point can we resubmit? Thanks!
RockBros Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 Most appropriate category Hello, I'd appreciate it if someone can please let me know both the most appropriate regional and non-regional category for rockbrothers.com and if I can re-submit at this time? Thank you, Richard
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted February 6, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted February 6, 2005 It's not something we normally do, but I would like to point out that "Pompano Beach" does not seem to appear anywhere on your web site. It's possible the reviewing editor will know who you are, or that you're listed in a local phone book or web directory, but that might delay or deny your Regional listing. I decline comment on exactly where you might be listed in the http://dmoz.org/Business categories, although it seems to me that your "E-COMMERCE" business might be separately listable from your "ADVERTISING, MARKETING AND PROMOTIONS" and your "MODEL AND TALENT MANAGEMENT" business. The latter two seem sufficiently interrelated that you might not be eligible for separate listings. It should also be pointed out that I don't edit in any Business categories in which you might possibly be listed, so that my word should be given minimal wait. You also need to be careful about whether some of your businesses might belong in http://dmoz.org/Adult
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted February 6, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted February 6, 2005 As for a status report -- your site is now waiting for review in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/R (apparently another editor agreed with me about the lack of Regional content). You may ask for another status report in 6 months. You may resubmit to the Regional category if you think you have Regional content. Although I may get in trouble for making the suggestion, if you can find a separate category for your advertising and/or modelling business, I would suggest that you make one additional suggestion to the one, best, category for that business.
RockBros Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 arubin, Thank you for your replies and input...I appreciate it. I asked about which regional category in Pompano Beach because that is where our studio is located...I have added the physical address to our contact page. BTW...How will I know if and when the site is approved and listed? Thank you, Richard
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted February 7, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted February 7, 2005 I think you found the correct subcategory in Pompano Beach. Both your advertising and modelling businesses would be at the top Business_and_Economy level, as they would go into subcategories which haven't yet been created, and your web design business would be in the Computers_and_Internet subcategory. But there's no way you would get more than one listing in Pompano Beach. How will I know if and when the site is approved and listed? When you see it in the directory. If you're worried about missing the location, the google directory or doing a google search within dmoz.org would be a better choice than our search. If you want a detailed status of how the suggestion is being sorting within our categories before being listed, you may only find that by asking in this thread. As indicated in our guidelines, you can ask about the status of a suggestion no earlier than one month after it's made, and ever 6 months thereafter. In this context, each suggestion of the same site may be treated separately, if you are invited to make additional suggestions.
RockBros Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I think you found the correct subcategory in Pompano Beach. Great...Thanks. I assume you mean: .../Pompano_Beach/Business_and_Economy/Computers_and_Internet/ I wasn't quite sure because the 2 sites listed there niether mention nor seem to be doing business out of Pompano Beach. The first one does mention Florida, but the other's title begins with "Bay Area California Web Site Design and Website Optimization Services". Both your advertising and modelling businesses would be at the top Business_and_Economy level, as they would go into subcategories which haven't yet been created, and your web design business would be in the Computers_and_Internet subcategory. But there's no way you would get more than one listing in Pompano Beach. One listing in Pompano seems fair enough. However, after a bit of research, I found what appeared to be another appropriate category and submitted to it as I saw similar promotional modeling services being offered by at least the following 2 listings: 1) "Commotion Promotions - Promotional models provider in Florida..." 2) "Patrick Talent Agency - Promotional event models..." http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Event_Planning_and_Production/Entertainment/ Thank you for all of your help. Richard
RockBros Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 BTW...If I need to make inquires regarding other sites I wish to submit, should I begin threads for each site individually or continue to post even those inquires in this thread? Thank you, Richard
uzs980 Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 If those other sites are closely related to this one, stay in this thread. If they are completely unrelated, start a new one.
RockBros Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Hello again! Ok...I would like inquire as to what may be the most appropriate regional and/or non-regional category(s) to submit the following sites to: http://www.allamericanbikiniteam.com/ http://www.nationalbikiniteam.com/ http://www.floridabikiniteam.com/ http://www.southfloridabikiniteam.com/ http://www.miamibikiniteam.com/ http://www.southbeachbikiniteam.com/ Are they considered closely related to http://www.rockbrothers.com/ so I can stay in this thread or do I need to: 1) Start a new thread for each individually? or 2) Start just one thread for all grouped together? Thank you, Richard
oneeye Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Or not submit them. Are they considered closely related to http://www.rockbrothers.com/ I would say so. Also closely related to one another. Please read the guidelines carefully (you will find these ones on the Suggest an URL form) - submission of related (not even closely related) sites is prohibited and can result in the rejection and removal of all related sites. So for your sake, please don't.

So for your sake, please don't. oneeye, Thanks! On that note, maybe someone can help me understand the regional guidelines as each bikini team’s operational area is limited to specific geographical area, focus and relevance to a particular regional population. Their corresponding web sites are for and by those residing in particular geographic areas i.e. Country: U.S.A. State: Florida Region or Metro Area: South Florida Locality: Miami Locality: South Beach That being said, I believe that the sites also appeal to other Internet users such as tourists and users interested in each area. I really appreciate all the feedback and guidance. Thank You, Richard
spectregunner Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 We are simply not going to list all of your bikini team -- whether you have one or one thousand. In our mind they are all one site that is divided into multiple URLs.
RockBros Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 We are simply not going to list all of your bikini team -- whether you have one or one thousand. Thank you...That certainly clarifies things. In our mind they are all one site that is divided into multiple URLs. That is not my intention and I have updated rockbrothers.com based on your input. The intention is for rockbrothers.com to be our main corporate or parent site that presents our various business services, which happen to include promotional bikini teams targeting different national, regional and local markets and in accordance to the DMOZ posted guidelines; each team’s operational area is limited to specific geographical area, focus and relevance to a particular regional population. Therefore, I respectfully request advise on how I can improve thse sites in the mind of DMOZ. Thank you, Richard
spectregunner Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 May I respectfully suggest that this may be the wrong approach. Build and optimize your site for your customers/prospects/vendors. That is where your revenue comes from. As far as ODP, simply recognize that we are only going to list your top-level domain (or the one we figure is your top-level domain). Provide good navigation links to you other sites from there, so that any visitors who come as a result of our listing will be able to get to other parts of your enterprise.
RockBros Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Got it I appreciate the wisdom and guidance received from all. Thank you, Richard
