Chrysokomas Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I aked for a reinstation of my account (ammannd), but did not receive an answer yet... Can anybody inform me about the status or (even better) grant me access again? Thanks a lot for your help! Dave
jimnoble Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 There is no pending reinstatement request for ammannd and there's no evidence that one has already been processed. Please try again. If you have a problem with that, please bump this thread so that we can help you further.
Chrysokomas Posted October 14, 2010 Author Posted October 14, 2010 Thank you for your answer! I tried again and it told me that Your application is under reviewing, please pay a little patience, thank you. I hope it worked now! Thank you!
Chrysokomas Posted October 14, 2010 Author Posted October 14, 2010 did you receive the reinstate request now?
motsa Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I don't see a reinstatement request there for you. Are you sure you requested reinstatement and didn't apply for a new editor account instead?
Chrysokomas Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 of course I filled out the reinstate form! I'm 100 percent sure! can't you just grant me access again?
Chrysokomas Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Nevertheless, I just filled out the form a third time, and again it told me "Your application is under reviewing, please pay a little patience, thank you"! did you receive the reinstate request now? username is still "ammannd"!
motsa Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Ah, we're having some teething pains with our reinstatement system after the system upgrade. I can't see your request but I presume it's there, based on the message you're getting. Please be patient. (Yes, someone could manually reinstate you, but given that it's been four years since you've edited, someone with German language skills really should be the one to review your request.)
Chrysokomas Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Ok, so I'll try to be patient... But why does someone with German language skills have to grant me access? I wrote the reinstate request in English! Nevertheless, I can tell you, why I'd like to be granted access again: Because of a new job in the environment of web programming and consultancy I'll now have plenty of time to help keeping the directory up-to-date and complete. In my former sections of the directory there are many outdated links and missing sites that I'd like to correct! So I'm really looking forward to have access a again! Thanks a lot!!
motsa Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Your reinstatement request may have been in English but your previous editing was in German. Reviewing previous editing is part and parcel of reviewing a reinstatement request.
Chrysokomas Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 I see... But do you think it's good to review changes that are done four years ago? In this case I'll better would have requested for a new account then, since this would have been quite simpler! I'm sorry, I don't want to start a discussion on making sense or not. It is just a remark that you might take with you and consider, once you redesign your reinstatement procedure!
motsa Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Only one account is allowed per person. If you'd applied for a new account, you would have been directed to the reinstatement form.
Chrysokomas Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Sorry for the cross-posting...! See my last post: I'm sorry, I don't want to start a discussion on making sense or not. It is just a remark that you might take with you and consider, once you redesign your reinstatement procedure! And to your last post: This is true as long as I do not chose another username...!
jimnoble Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 And to your last post: This is true as long as I do not chose another username...! That would mean lying on the application form and be editorial abuse. We take integrity seriously here.
motsa Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 And to your last post: This is true as long as I do not chose another username...! I meant that the meta editor reviewing your new editor application would reject your application and point you towards the reinstatement form. We take the one account per editor policy quite seriously. I'm sorry, I don't want to start a discussion on making sense or not. It is just a remark that you might take with you and consider, once you redesign your reinstatement procedure! We're not redesigning the reinstatement procedure at the moment (it's the technology underlying the entire DMOZ system that has changed, not individual specific procedures) but if we were, reviewing previous edits is always going to be a part of the process.
Chrysokomas Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 I meant that the meta editor reviewing your new editor application would reject your application and point you towards the reinstatement form. We take the one account per editor policy quite seriously. I now that, and that's the reason I did not do it! But on the other hand I'm sure there are many duplicate accounts out there! (At least I did know of some at the time I was quite active here...). We're not redesigning the reinstatement procedure at the moment (it's the technology underlying the entire DMOZ system that has changed, not individual specific procedures) but if we were, reviewing previous edits is always going to be a part of the process. I'm not against reviewing previous edits! Don't missunderstand me please! But it's the way how strong you take edits into account that were done 4 years ago! Time changes, and so do editors! I think I didn't do a bad job 4 years ago, but for sure I lernt a lot in the meanwhile that will help me to be a better editor now... Do you get my thoughts? (It's not about reviewing previous edits, it's about how long ago these edits are done!). And to finish up: I just want to help here...

(It's not about reviewing previous edits, it's about how long ago these edits are done!).I said nothing about how strongly I/we take past edits into account. I just said that your reinstatement request would be best looked at by someone who actually knows the language because having a look at your past editing is part of the reinstatement process. Surely that makes sense.

I just said that your reinstatement request would be best looked at by someone who actually knows the language because having a look at your past editing is part of the reinstatement process. Surely that makes sense. Ok, and I agree with you that it does not make sense to reinstate an account that did not do any edits at all...! Nevertheless, how will you know that the editor has not improved in the meanwhile? How will you know that he will not be a great help now, perhaps because he has now plenty of time (e.g. as I have now, although I did several edits 4 years ago... )? Ok, no system is perfect, I agree!
motsa Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Ok, and I agree with you that it does not make sense to reinstate an account that did not do any edits at all. You're agreeing with something I never wrote? Accounts that did no edits at all are reinstated all the time. Nevertheless, how will you know that the editor has not improved in the meanwhile? How will you know that he will not be a great help now, perhaps because he has now plenty of time (e.g. as I have now, although I did several edits 4 years ago..I'm not sure why you seem to be trying to plead your own case. Your reinstatement request is waiting and someone will review it. Most reinstatement requests are ultimately accepted. All we ask is that you be patient.
Chrysokomas Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 I think we missunderstood each other, my english isn't that well, sorry! It seems that I can not make my point clear. But that's ok, let's hope I'll be granted access as soon as possible.
Editall/Catmv jensarentoft Posted October 15, 2010 Editall/Catmv Posted October 15, 2010 I can see a reinstatement request for ammannd in the queue, so we have received it.
Chrysokomas Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 I can see a reinstatement request for ammannd in the queue, so we have received it. That's great news! Thanks for the information!
Chrysokomas Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 are there any news? it's quite some time ago now since I requested...
motsa Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 It's not necessary to keep checking back. Please continue to be patient.
Chrysokomas Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 well... can you tell me, how many days i have to be patient again?
