#2500 - I have reported the spelling error in the April report. I can't fix it myself.

We have a few editors who periodically check the directory for common spelling errors/typos, but inevitably some go unnoticed.

[Edited to add] equiptment now dealt with, thanks.

#2502 The link was removed by our link checker on 11 May, though it is still showing on the public side, which can take a while to catch up.

Thanks anyway.

... especially when that link-checker runs. I expect the update delays to be back to normal in about a week.

It depends. Our main link-checker, Robozilla, delists dead links automatically. Then they can be checked by an editor. In rare cases the site may not be permanently dead and can be relisted.

In between runs by Robozilla, other link-checkers may be run, some which have an automated de-listing facility, others requiring manual delisting. And then of course we have helpful people like yourself noting dead links here, which will be removed by hand.

#2500 - Update. I'm now dealing with 'calender'. We have a power tool for this sort of thing, so I'm typing this note while it works away by itself. :)

Thanks Jeanmanco

Thanks,

Glad to hear the dead link removal process is at least partially automated. (I guess I can focus on other things if I'm wanting to help out). I had hoped some manual editing might be happening in that category as no new sites have been added for quite some time. (Society: Paranormal: Psychic: Auras)

Here's a question for you: In the above cat., the last 6 entries are all links from groups.yahoo.com - is this normal or acceptable?

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/Travel_and_Tourism/

Entries #1,4, 5 and possibly 7 all appear to be purely photo sites. Shouldn't they be in Maps and Views?

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/Travel_and_Tourism/Destinations/

I wonder how you differentiate sites here from those in Travel Guides?

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Guides/

Complete Travel Guide for Discovering Myanmar (myanmardotcom.com ) - is listed twice in Myanmar cat's.

Focus on Myanmar - involves a redirect.

Myanmar - The Internet Travel Guide - title should be "Pongu's Travel Guides"

Myanmar Travel Information - has a bad script on it that causes site to be painfully slow.

Myanmar's .net - mostly in Burmese and what's left is just some news stories.

Travel Burma - redirects to orient-express.com

Visit-Burma.Com - Mainly an affiliate of ETC. Asia Co., Ltd. (see all of its alter egos at bottom of page) plus external links like asia-hotels.com and visit-mekong.com

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/

Myanmar Hotels Discount - affilation of eThaiHotel.com which is listed under Thailand///Guides and Directories/ (Note: whenever you see hyphenated hotel discounters, it's almost always an affiliation of someone else and not be listed, imo).

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/Recreation_and_Sports/

Shouldn't that lone entry be under Arts?

#2509 dealt with, thanks.

Yahoo groups can be listed, as long as they have relevant, useful and unique content. It is unusual to have an education category dominated by them, but I presume this is because of a shortage of sites in English for Burmese educational institutions.

The Irrawaddy Newsmagazine - "unbiased reporting" the desc says; that would probably be a first for an exile group doing the reporting.

Myanmar News.net - I'm not sure about this one; it's just feeds from bignewsnetwork.com listed many times.

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/News_and_Media/Newspapers/

Bangkok Post - Why is this site listed under Myanmar when it's also properly listed under Bangkok?

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/News_and_Media/Radio/

MoeMaKa Internet Radio Station - redirects to moemaka.net where site is all in Burmese apparently except for a lot of moreover.com news feeds.

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/Society_and_Culture/Politics/

Burma Focus Page: International Campaign to Ban Landmines - access denied.

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/Society_and_Culture/Politics/Human_Rights_and_Liberties/

Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) - wants you to go to http://www.khrg.org

Canadian Friends of Burma - redirects to http://www.cfob.org/

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Myanmar/Transportation/Airlines/

Air Mandalay Passenger Sales Agent - sort of curious that their partner airline is Laos Airlines. Does this mean the two airlines run by same company? Doubt it. No, laoairlines.com is the official site. Both of these hypenated sites are not the official ones and seem to me to be a travel agency based in Bangkok.

Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering - there are two listings for this and one looks OK while the 2nd is not obvious. (?)

Micronet Computer School - under construction, network solutions.

Wikiipedia - Brunei - misspelling in title.

Borneoweb.com - down for maintenance.

Brunei Industrial Development Authority (BINA) - Same root url twice in this directory (one under construction).

The sole entry can't be found.

#2519 dealt with, thanks.

It's an odd situation with the Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering. The site with the edu domain seems to be the work of the Computer and IT Dept. It gives no general information about the college. That is supplied by the other site. So I'm leaving both listings for the moment.

Nail Artz is working fine for me.

OMG! I have really racked my brain trying to remember if there is any way I might have done this, but I just flat can't remember. If I am the guilty party, I apologize to whoever has to fix it. The description definitely looks like it could be mine. If I did do it, I must have just forgotten to change the title tag for the correct title. So sorry!

On http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/China/Guides_and_Directories/

1. How does http://www.chinacenter.umn.edu/ qualify as a China guide or directory?

2. In http://www.index-china.com/ China winning 2008 Olympics is headline news, even the ad link to http://www.a724.com does not work

A sure sign that it is a dead spaceship without anyone at the helm is that on http://www.index-china.com/index-english/environment-s.html even the ad links don't work. Three of the four links at the bottom do not work. The fourth, China Environmental Review, has not been updated since 1999.

3. http://sun.sino.uni-heidelberg.de/igcs/index.html

claims to have been updated on 1 May 2006. But as the last line shows he hasn't heard of Google. Click anyway on the search engine called Magellan to learn all about real estate in Ann Arbor

The page also contains a link to http://sun.sino.uni-heidelberg.de/igcs/igguides.htm (search engines and guides to East Asia) but again no mention of Google. Talk of Rip van Winkle.

Editor misconduct on Local real estate categoy

I cannot believe my eyes as to what has happened here. The following category was edited by an editor yesterday:

Top: Regional: North America: United States: Louisiana: Localities: S: Shreveport: Business and Economy: Real Estate

The editor has removed ALL of the agents' websites in that category except for 4 of them. I suspect that the editor is, or affiliated with, one of the remaining agents websites. The other listings remaining in the category are websites that do not pose a "threat" to the remaining agents' websites. What I find particularly interesting is that the editor made sure to completely extinguish every single agent that works for the brokerage, Realty Executives. I certainly hope you have an archive where you can verify this claim. If not, an archive from June 2002 can be found here:

http://web.archive.org/web/20020610192937/http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Louisiana/Localities/S/Shreveport/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate/

It is interesting that the archive from June 10, 2002 contains 22 listings while the current update from 5:11 PT, Wednesday, May 24, 2006 has only 13 listings. One must wonder why in the past four years the number of listings in this category has decreased when the number of agent websites in this area this as increased exponentially.

The aforementioned is just another prime example of corruption that happens daily in the dmoz directory. I've been trying to get my Shreveport real estate website listed in this category for well over a year, and it blows away most of the sites that are listed in that category. There is a rat controlling this real estate category, and he needs to be outsted!

Please email me at dennis_t@juno.com and provide me any additional information. I would love to find out the editor of this category. If it is found that this editor has some sort of motive I'm sure the Realty Executives broker would love to know about it. While DMOZ is an open directory and cannot be held responsible for such actions, this editor can.

I expect a rectification to this problem within a week. If no solution has been enacted at that time I shall publish an article concerning this matter to the worldwide RSS feeds. I have expert author status at the publishing firm I'm affiliated with, and my article will be syndicated all over the world once I release it.

Don't let me down.
