FiberGuy Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Trojan Found at site... Greetings! When browsing the category: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Antiques_and_Collectibles/Ephemera/Periodicals/ I clicked on the site named "C-Bub's Magazine Vault" and McAfee threw a fit. Not certain what the ODP's policy is regarding something like this, but there ya' have it! (I'm scanning my PC at this time, BTW) Cheers (Edit) While I'm here... This site in the same category is "under development": Tilleys Vintage Magazines

n49mike Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Hi there, I'm reporting the following sites (along with the reasons they're inappropriate) for editing purposes: From the category http://www.dmoz.org/Top/Regional/North_America/Canada/Business_and_Economy/Directories/ The site in question is celebrate.ca. Celebrate.ca is a "member" of the GoPro.ca "network" of sites which are nothing more than a series of low-content sites designed to promote the parent company, N49 Interactive (n49interactive.com). The listings within these "networked" sites generally number no more than 15, and are all paid listings which are "reverse billed" in some cases (i.e. the listing is provided, and then the customer is billed retroactively for the link without having approved of the charge beforehand.) Celebrate.ca is not part of the Gopro network. They are for all intents and purposes 2 completely separate and distinct businesses and do not share anything in common. Gopro is a network established for the construction and home improvement industry, Celebrate was established for the party, wedding and sorporate event industry. The domains and networks reside on different machines, utilizing different platforms and software. Celebrate.ca is a directory of brick-n-mortar businesses in Canada. Many of the listings are free, some are paid listings. The allegation of reverse-option billing is a total fabrication. The practice is unlawful in Ontario and does not take place in the company. It's most unfortunate that this sort of thing happens, but such is the anonymity of the internet. If you or anyone else has any questions or concerns about our positioning or listing in dmoz please feel free to contact me directly at 416 385 2433. Mike Robinson Senior Developer n49 Interactive
Meta nea Posted November 13, 2006 Meta Posted November 13, 2006 The decision which site(s) to list rests with the editor(s), not the webmaster. I haven't looked at these particular sites, and am not familiar with the area, so this is a general comment which applies to any site, not just this one. That being said, any re-review can't happen until the technical problems are solved. At that point, the sites will be checked and reviewed to see which URL(s) should be listed. dmozie Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Lovely spam, wonderful spam Listed in multiple categories, I was trying to look into it in more depth, however, I can't find the editor for Amoured_Vehicles in the members list. http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Fire_and_Security/Security/Armored_Vehicles/ Craig International Ballistics Pty Ltd - Manufacturer of armored vehicles, body armor, and aircraft and marine armoring. RZ Admin Elper Posted November 24, 2006 RZ Admin Posted November 24, 2006 Thanks dmozie for pointing out what certainly looks like a double-listing error... Though it didn't look too much like spam, unless you know different and can add some more details to your post... Despite the servers being crook for the moment, please continue to add any errors you find to this thread and they will dealt with appropriately asap. elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.
jestep Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 http://dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Merchant_Services/Guides_and_Directories/ There are a few listing that are no longer relevant in this category. Got Merchant Accounts Is no longer a guide and is only a commercial website selling merchant services. Merchant Account 101 Is now mostly an affiliate website. Almost every outgoing link on the site is an affiliate link, google adwords, or other advertising link. There are numerous other websites on the internet that are not in this category that are much higher quality.
Ivan Bajlo Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Let me check my former categories and those never meant to be hopefully someone will fix them from time to time. http://dmoz.org/World/Hrvatski/Umjetnost/Fotografija/ Foto aukcije http://foto.aukcije.biz/ redirects to Google.com site moved to http://foto.aukcije.hr/ http://dmoz.org/World/Hrvatski/Društvo/Povijest/Chat_i_forumi/ Iskon forum: Povijest moved from http://www.iskon.hr/forum/forum.jspa?forumID=165 to http://forum.net.hr/forum.jspa?forumID=222 with new title Net.hr forum: Povijest (company chaged owner and portal become independant) http://dmoz.org/World/Hrvatski/Slobodno_vrijeme/Igre/ This one is hacked so if they don't fix it by the time DMOZ is fixed... Game-Masteri http://game-masteri.com/index.html/ (I think I moved them to unreviewed myself just before I removed back in July!?? Is this version of DMOZ that old?)
Editall/Catmv lmocr Posted December 4, 2006 Editall/Catmv Posted December 4, 2006 As soon as the technical difficulties are corrected (see the announcement thread), we will make any needed changes that have been added here. Thanks for reporting these issues.
brmehlman Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 The above applies to most of the posts here. This thread is in no way intended as a substitute for the "suggest url" and "update url" links on each category page. If you wish to suggest a site or request changes to the listing of your site, please use those links. Do not post such requests here, they will be deleted.

gboisseau Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Cats_and_Dogs/Clothing_and_Accessories/Dogs/ Debbie's Bows [EDIT] 404 That url is showing clear and active by whois.domaintools.com. I did notice that their hosting company is undergoing some changes which may be the cause of this problem. Maybe it will be fixed by the time the editing side is back on-line.
sugieb Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Dead Link It has been down for over 3 weeks.
gboisseau Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 It has been down for over 3 weeks. And I just checked and it is now working. This site has also been moved to its own server. It is no longer on the domain server that it was when I checked on the 10th.
