Hi!

While searching:

I encountered the following issue I wanted to bring to your attention

Inactive Site. Deeplinked page from an IT site having multiple listings in other categories. The landing page (essentially a page under construction)does not match the description and Wayback shows the same "under consruction" landing page since 11/2005

- List of the 1998 Hugo winners, as well as a tally of award and nomination votes. (August 5, 1998)

Wayback Nov 09, 2005

Criticism of Islam/Quran/Scientific accuracu category

Hi,

here is the category link for you to easily find it:

http://www.dmoz.org/Society/Religion_and_Spirituality/Islam/Quran/Scientific_Accuracy/

I sent this e-mail first to Quality Control feedback as a new thread. But a moderator asked me to send it here. I am really shocked with the listings of above mentioned category. Here are my complaints:

1. This one is fixed. Thanks to the moderator. I still include it for the first time readers of my complaint.

For example, look at this site (it is listed at the above dmoz category) : http://members.aol.com/silence004/

The site is moved! And when I go to the link they give (http://www.rationalreality.com/) what I found is a site totally unrelated with Quran&Science at all. There even articles about "Israel & Democracy" and "Iraq War". What is this? A joke? Note: The moderator said that we will re-evaluate it (maybe to find another category for it). Why this insestence? Once a site entered into a DMOZ category, is it guaranteed that it will never be removed?

2. Or try this one: http://www.geocities.com/lone_wolf_gc/

It is a poorly written site with no original content. There are infact only 4 articles about Quranic Science and all of them are just copy-and-paste from original internet sites.

3. The above also applies to this site: http://www.angelfire.com/il2/islamicpage/scienceIt is just a one page copy-and-paste work? Why don't you list the original sites but these cheap and poor quality web sites.

4. This one is the WORST : http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Ithaca/6402/It has only 2 absurd artciles : One is a copy-and-paste work of a crazy claim orginally found in the net (Search for "Microsoft Excel reveals the Quran Miracle" non-sense). The other article is of same quality! Here is a part from that GREAT page: "This is a recently discovered phenomenon in a forest near Sidney. As you can see, the bottom half of the tree trunk is bowed in such a way that it resembles a person in a posture of Islamic prayer - the 'ruku'. Looking closer you can see the 'hands' resting on the knees." Do you think that this site deserves a listing in DMOZ?

5. One more : http://www.geocities.com/aahem187/

This site is again a cheap copy! But the most beautiful side of it : the debug code that appears when you go to main page.8 I think it is a javascript code. Nice for the ones who wants to learn javascript!

6. Even one MORE : http://website.lineone.net/~786kas/home.html

cheap, copy, no rich content, no original content. It is only a 5-page (of poor design) web site with very short quotations about Quran and Science. Hey, guys there are really good sites on Quran & Science on the net. Is it really hard to find them. Just a google search!

By the way, there are only 7 listings in the category! 6 of them are defects.

Do you think that one of the largest religions of world deserve all these?

Thanks to the editor of the category! Great job!

please be sure about the quality of your listings!

Sorry, thanks anyway.

No site is guaranteed a listing. The referenced site was removed from public view after you informed us of the redirecting URL. Since it contains new/changed content we will not know if it is re-listable (and where) until it has been reviewed again.

Your main objection to these listings seems to be that they duplicate content that can be found on other, more authorative website(s). Please feel free to submit these if you feel they would add value to the category. Unfortunately editors are not able to verify every site for original content, although we do our best not to duplicate it.

The fact that you find the content “absurd” is not a reason to de-list a site.

On one site I did note the code errors on the top of the main page. They do not seem to effect the overall navigation of the site, so again this is not enough to de-list.

Also, poor design is not a reason to remove a site unless it causes serious difficulties in navigation.

Hi!

While searching:

http://www.dmoz.org/Arts/Movies/Theaters/Indoor_Theaters/United_States/Oregon/

I encountered the following issues I wanted to bring to your attention

URL Changed. A link on the landing page directs you to a new URL on an AOL personal page. That landing page also has a message and link directing you to the final destination.

- Official site of the Fox Theatre in Dalles. Information, and showtimes.

Parking Page.

- Wallowa County's only theatre located in Enterprise. Showtimes and film details.
