zombie Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Hey, not a bad strategy, clean out the junk and then apply to become an editor, getting a nice clean category in the process. Glad to have you on board! Or apply and get rejected for the fourth time~
4fans Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 Double entry I was checking on a submission and I noticed this site listed 2 times. I also noticed their largest affiliate listed. There are hundreds of affiliates who knows how many links they actually have here. Links below. http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=sportsfanfare.com The affiliate site is this one http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=teacherhumor.com Here is her affiliate link http://www.teacherhumor.com/sports/ Weve been waiting since Sept to be listed Going to post about that now
jeanmanco Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 Re #382 I'm working up from the bottom. Have done http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Clothing/Menswear/ http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Clothing/Lingerie/ http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Clothing/Leather/ One or two sites were live. http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Clothing/Footwear/Athletic/ The site mentioned is live. The next category up dealt with by brmehlman, so I think we're done with #382, thanks.
brmehlman Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 Re #382/#403: Yep, I started from the top so when we met it was done. Thanks, Jean. Thanks, GillS. Re #402: Having separate listings for a store and for its affiliate program is not a problem. They're different enough so someone looking for a product and someone looking for an easy way to make some money off the internet will find what they think they need in the two separate categories. What we don't want to list is pages whose whole purpose is to drive traffic to someone else's store. We'll list the store at the end in due course, and leave it at that. Which brings us to the teacher jokes. A lot of ads and affiliate content have been added since that page was listed. Whether that's enough to warrant delisting it depends on whether or not the ads overwhelm the jokes. I've contacted an editor who specializes in that area who will make that determination.

gckorn Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 Dead Link The following category, though not Maine related (my obsession) contains a dead link. The category is: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Crafts/Fiber_Arts/Quilts/ The link is: Trillium Designs http://www.trilliumdesigns.net/ - I know this link is dead because I used to own it (back in the time when I used to acquire DMOZ-listed domains). I deleted it some weeks back. gckorn

xixtas01 Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 In http://dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Banking_Services/Automatic_Teller_Machines/ American Computer Resources - http://www.currencycounterparts.com/ has broken links and is of dubious value. Banqtec AG - http://www.banqtec.de/banqtec_e/ is 404, it appears English language content no longer available on the site. Sourcetronics, Inc. - http://www.sourcetronics.com/ is a default server page. Xtracash ATM - http://www.xtracash.com/ is no longer appropriate for the category.
shritwod Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Re: item 402 I have had a look at this site and determined that it is still eligible for inclusion as it does add some value to that category, and that the affiliate links don't quite overwhelm the content. The page you refer do is actually buried pretty much in the site and seems to be for SEO purposes rather than anything else. The main purpose of the site does appear to be consistent with the category to which it has been submitted. However, a note has been made on the site so that this can be checked again when it is re-reviewed in the future.

jeanmanco Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Thanks for the above. I'll take a look in a minute. Robozilla - the ODP's link checker - has been busy lately. So editors are blitzing dead links. It might be as well to hold off further reports on dead links for a couple of weeks to save duplicating effort. #417 dealt with, thanks. You picked up some not marked by Robozilla.
GillS Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 No problem, will stop for a while and start again the beginning of May - does that sound about right or should I drop you a line to see if Robozilla has finished by then?
Alucard Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Robozilla has finished already - leaving a mess for us to clean up Right now, on our editor interface, we have HUGE numbers of flagged sites which need to be checked - it hadn't been run in a while, so there is a lot to catch up on. I would leave it until the end of May, to be honest. We're going to be very very busy for a while. But once again, thank you for all your efforts - they definitely are appreciated!
jeanmanco Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 #418 dealt with, thanks. Again you picked up some problems missed by the bot. Humans do it better?
greg-ga Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 duplicate/abuse link? In Top: Regional: North America: United States: Florida: Travel and Tourism: Lodging: Vacation Rentals: By Owner There are two links: title: Florida Vacation Rentals by Owner url: http://www.frbodirect.com/vacationrentals/FL.htm title: Vacation Rentals By Owner - Florida url:http://www.frbodirect.com/USA/Florida.htm Seems weird and confusing.
brmehlman Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 I wish you'd given a clickable link to the category, it would have saved me a few steps. But you're right. Only one of those should have been listed. And now, only one is. Thanks.
