@RbizSolutions - Sites removed from the directory usually show up in our search for at least a week, in Google for several, and on the Internet for years.

FYI the content of that site was different in 2001and would have been listable there at that time

Reason: The listed site(actually a page in real) is not related to the category "Society & Culture" by any mean. In fact the listed page and it's main website is related to Politics, War & Counter-Insurgency operation.

 

My heart blows for this listing, because I am also from the state Assam of India. How do DMOZ considers Insurgency, Counter-Insurgency, Terrorism, Killing etc information as relevant to 'Society and Culture' of a Region or Nation?

We list sites like that under "Society" which becomes "Society and Culture" under Regional (I agree with you this has nothing to do with culture).

The content on the linked page "Assam Assessment 2010" relates to the area, Assam, in which it is listed.

It doesn't fall foul of the relevant guideline so imo remains listable, although the description could clearly be improved upon (done).

See http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/India/Society_and_Culture/ to get an idea of the wide range of subjects which fit in "Society and Culture".

The listed site is the research based portal on Insurgency/Terrorism of South East Asia & the research committee is under Indian Government.

I hope I'm going about this in the correct manner - so please forgive any inadvertent clumsiness on my part if I'm not.

 

I've noticed one or two issues with some links in the "Heavy Timber Construction: Timber Framing" section of the directory:

1. Misty Isle Log and Timber Frame Homes - leads to a page displaying the following "Thank You for visiting, but we are closing the site" before redirecting to another site advertising heat exchangers.

 

2. Muskoka Timber Frame Co does not appear to be a timber framing company as much as a local business, tourism and website design directory.

 

3. Smoky Mountain Artisan Homes redirects to http://www.hybridsteelframing.com/, which is held on a "1&1 Internet" parking page.

 

4. Timber Quest does not load - when I tried validating it on W3C for a look at the source, it returned 90 errors and 1 warning.

I'm using Safari 4.1.3 so maybe it's a little more temperamental.

Anyway, glad to assist - though, in truth, I must confess to having a vested interest in this category as I have submitted my own website for inclusion within it. (I hope I'm allowed to mention that without going into any detail!)

2. LTD Equestrian Ranches leads to an "Earthlink.net" parking page containing only website hosting related links.

 

3. Le Triangle International opens a page reading: "This Account Has Been Suspended".

 

4. MTW Construction leads to a "DirectNIC" parking page showing a message that the domain has expired.

I notice that you refer to the categories as numbers (#5015, #5018, etc.) - would it be more appropriate for me to refer to them in this way rather than by "breadcrumb" when discussing them?

If so, how can I find the number?

 

 

Incidentally, I've noticed another oddity in the "Heavy Timber Construction: Timber Framing" #5015 section of the directory:

Custom Frame Builders - leads to a "register.com" parking page advertising domain hosting services and various generic building industry directory links (which trigger pop-unders when clicked - a bit of a bug bear for me as I utterly detest pop-unders and regard them as the browser equivalent of spam).

More peculiarly, this link only appears within this category (#5015) when the page is viewed in "Google PageRank" and "Alpabetical" order, but not in standard(?) view.

Aha... I noticed the post numbers and did rather wonder if it was connected with that - but I ruled it out.

 

The reason being, whilst this post might appear to have the number #5023 as you view it, it has the number #4965 on my screen - indeed, if I select it, the copied link reads as follows:

it's at the correct category and correct description, the problem is that it seems to me (an editor may have another view) that the website is quite spammy... as soon as you go in there is an in-screen popup plus spammy keywords on the top of the pages for -all- pages. Certainly doesn't look like the kind of unique content dmoz is looking for.

 

As a note, if all my suggestions are taken, the category "Buscas e Diretórios" would only have 1 website (or empty if one of the websites is not moved to this category as I suggested) and "Hospedagem de Páginas: Grátis" would only have 3 websites. "Hospedagem de Páginas: Grátis" does have an editor (lantonioli), but I wonder if anyone is getting reviewed, considering that 2 out of the 3 major free web hosts in Brazil are not listed...
