Meta mauri Posted June 12, 2012 Meta Posted June 12, 2012 Item #5070 and 5071 done. sandiegohaunted, please report only URLs that are effectively listed in the directory and that you can see with your eyes. Some of your reports are inconsistent and related to URLs that were already removed from the public side by our automated tools months or years ago. Thanks
sandiegohaunted Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Every url I sent you came from the ODP listings as I found today and copied word for word, so not sure what you mean.
Meta mauri Posted June 12, 2012 Meta Posted June 12, 2012 Parachasers I.N.C. - Investigative group that promotes the use of technology for collecting paranormal evidence. Site includes video and photographic evidence, equipment articles, and how-to videos. -- http://www.parachasers.com Society: Paranormal: Organizations (null) parked domain for sole purpose of advertising money. For example, this URL is not listed in Dmoz since about 16 months, so I'm not sure where exactly you're doing your checks.
sandiegohaunted Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 I think I understand what your saying. The links I found were done using the "search" function which no longer actually works. The results are no longer updated, so it is possible for the link to still exist and not exist at the same time. In the example given above, http://www.dmoz.org/...arachasers.com/ behold there is the link however, if you click on the directory Society: Paranormal: Organizations (null) the link is gone. This seems very self defeating especially for all websites in DMOZ prior to the search function problem. A quick search of google and it is clear this link still links to ODP's directory even though it doesn't exist in the directory.
RZ Admin photofox Posted June 13, 2012 RZ Admin Posted June 13, 2012 The search function is updated everyday, the problem is we have a bug which means sites deleted from the directory still show in the search results. The bug appeared when we switched from using the RDF to using a separate search database. Newly listed sites and changed listings are still be updated though. AOL are aware of the problem. dsleno Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Hello, I checked every link in this area: http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Shareware/Authors/ There were several links of concern: http://www.artixmedia.com/ - does not go to main page. Seems to land on a error page http://www.bcsoft.org/ - lots of links on site that go nowhere. Not updated since 2004 Modjex – public.modjex.com - under construction Innersky software - Innersky.com – unresponsive. Doesn’t load Fieldtown software - http://www.fieldtown.co.uk/ - redirects to a tennis site Generally, this category is pretty low quality and looks like it hasn't seen an editor for years. My site has been waiting 4 years for inclusion. I hope someone will spend a day here and see if they can clean it up and add some of the new sites that have been waiting patiently for a long, long time. Thanks.
RZ Admin Elper Posted July 20, 2012 RZ Admin Posted July 20, 2012 Hi dsleno, Thanks for the report. Imo bcsoft is still OK, although very old. fieldtown seems OK to me, I found tennis software there. The others removed. Editing is a hobby activity, so timescales are variable... We have a policy of not giving preferential treatment on these forums, so it might be a while yet  If you'd like to try out editing (not just to list your site) consider applying to be an editor? elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.

jonnyy Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 In the following category http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Event_Planning/ Redseven Leisure - http://www.redsevenleisure.co.uk/ looks like a mirror and is the same company as Eclipse Leisure Ltd - http://www.eclipseleisure.co.uk/ Most of the content is the same and they are both owned by the same company in Brighton.
jimnoble Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 @jonnyy: Thanks for the heads up. Cursory investigation shows that you're correct but that there are a lot more related sites. I'll take a closer look later on today. <added> Done </added>
Snoman Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Hi Eds - this category is all about my industry: http://www.dmoz.org/Sports/Winter_Sports/Skiing/Travel_Programs/Europe/ Jim mentioned this forum as a place to contribute. Here are the dead or broken links: - Albus Travel (first link in cat, seems to be dead) - Austrian Snow Adventures (redirects to AlpenRider.com) - Crystal Holidays (incorrect name as it links to CrystalSki.co.uk - there is a different site for CrystalHolidays.co.uk although its all the same company owned by travel giant TUI) - Finlays Skiing Holidays (went bust in a previous winter - this site is now being used to generate leads by Interactive Resorts who own Chalet World which is already listed in this category - notice the dodgy pale hidden links to other Interactive micro-sites at bottom of Finlays page) - Global Adventures (page says "Coop web hosting - this site has been suspended") - Iglu.com (this is now their business hub with links to their ski site but also cruise site and many others - this link should be changed to IgluSki.com site, but should def. be kept, as they are UK's biggest ski travel agent) - Ski Bon (dead site last updated 2006/7 according to homepage text) - Ski Julia (site now redirects to V-ski as daughter has taken over family business - link needs updating) - Ski Weekends and Board Breaks (site is only called "skiweekends".com now, so the ODP link looks like dodgy seo anchor text) - Ski The Edge (proprietor retired so site is now seems to be a lead generator for someone else - like Findlays above) - Snowtrip (redirects to skiingtransfers webmail login page) - Vikingval (dead site with 1 image and title "Server 1") - World Class Skiing (redirects to subdomain, link needs updating) If any of the above is found to be useful (and you feel like doing even more work on this page!) please do consider my application for sno.co.uk as I think this category hasn't been worked on for some time. Apologies if you see a fresh application from me every year or so, as I didn't realise for the first few of years applying that I'm not supposed to submit more than once. Now I know better - sorry. Best of luck - ODP is an incredibly worthwhile thing and I plan to help further by going off to learn the ropes in a less contentious category. All best
Snoman Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I should also have mentioned that you might decide the big firms on that page like Iglu and Inghams and Crystal should really be on this page http://www.dmoz.org/Sports/Winter_Sports/Skiing/ as they are not merely limited to Europe but are worldwide like us.

Snoman Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 thanks Elper - I'm looking for a less controversial category to learn the ropes on (I applied before for this ski category and was told its too spammy for a new editor). If you have any suggestions of how I might choose a less contentious cat to edit, I'd be grateful. If there is something Ski/winter travel related that fits my current expertise, or background is beeb TV production (though I imagine those cats are pretty contentious too?) regards @snoman (items 5091 & 5092) - Reported issues taken care of, many thanks. Sorry, we don't offer preferential treatment - however, owning site(s) is not incompatible with being an editor, should you be interested in a new hobby...

jimnoble Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Thanks but our robots already delisted this dysfunctional site a couple of days ago. We don't have quotas and so there is no concept of 'place' that your site could fit right into. If you haven't already done so, suggest your URL to the category in the usual way and some volunteer will attend to it in time.
