keepinemHonest Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 Mirror okay? I've read the guidelines but don't know how to interpret the policy on indentical mirrors. As I understand it, a second site would not be accepted for listing if it where a duplicate of another listed. But, if a site has multiple mirrors but only one site is listed in the directory, is that okay? I've seen a number of examples of one site in the directory with one or more sites not in the directory. If that's okay, I wont bother reporting here. But, if it is something you want to know about, I would.
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted July 20, 2004 Editall/Catmv Posted July 20, 2004 Speaking only for myself, if I were considering listing a site, I'd like to know what the other mirrors are.
brmehlman Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Well, yeah, I can agree with that. But I think the question was: Can a site that has mirrors be listed? And the answer is: Definitely yes if the site would otherwise be listable. Once. If you find two or more identical sites all listed, please let us know.
keepinemHonest Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Listed once but has mirrors Here are a few examples of sites that are listed once, but have mirror sites. I think what may be open to interpretation is whether the purpose of the mirror is legitimate. If the mirror were built for accessibility, or in another language, it's understandable. But, many exist for the sole purpose of Search Engine Optimization, which I know has noting to do with the Directory, and therefore may be permissible. Editall Callimachus Posted July 26, 2004 Editall Posted July 26, 2004 Despite their variance in contact information; I can assure you the sites are owned by the same company. 3 out of the 4 designs are very similar. **Have same secure order forms. Contact information looks totally different, desings may be similar - all rectangular layouts, and one of those similar secure order pages doesn't seem to exist. 4. schnucki Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 porn site Hi, I found a hijacked domain today too: http://www.eins35.de is a redirect to a porn site and listed in http://dmoz.org/World/Deutsch/Freizeit/Hobbys/Modellbau/Milit%c3%a4r/ maybe someone can take care of it and remove it from the index. {{{ edited: another one I found a minute ago is http://www.trance-experience.de/ on http://dmoz.org/World/Deutsch/Kultur/Musik/DJs/ - it's "we are working on it", but with links to several insurance-company-domains further down the page (invisible text) - maybe this one can be deleted too - even if it is not "dangerous" to childs - it's not what I was searching for }}}
brmehlman Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 135 now 86ed. The other one we'll take in order as we work through this thread. Thank you!
-lc- Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 "hijacked" (changed) link, no longer appropriate: http://www.DomainNotes.com is no longer with us (was a good site) but someone has taken advantage of it inappropriately and is forwarding. category: Computers: Internet: Domain Names: Resources http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Domain_Names/Resources/ also while you are in that category: the following links are dead: RFC 2164 ( http://www.nic.gov/help_rfc2146.html ) Domain Seller Pro ( http://www.prophp.com/domseller.php )
-lc- Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 wow that was fast, probably missed the two dead links I added at the end, sorry I should have opened a new message for em I'll add them here for a new message number: category: Computers: Internet: Domain Names: Resources http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/...ames/Resources/ the following links are dead: RFC 2164 ( http://www.nic.gov/help_rfc2146.html ) Domain Seller Pro ( http://www.prophp.com/domseller.php )
djdeeds Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Had gotten the first (title was also dyslexic - fixed) but not the second. #593 done now also.

raggedyrugs Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 -lc- Please feel free to submit your application. We can always use more eyes.
-lc- Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 This is not quite the same as a bad link but is very bad placement (feel free to move this message where appropriate, I am still learning your system) http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Domain_Names/ has four links (no additions can be submitted, apparently due to structure changes) The first one, "Case Study of Tina's Free Live Webcam" is a glaring inapproriate placement compared to the foundational links there. Probably a legacy item before there were sub-categories. If it's kept, it should probably be under "Opinions" http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Domain_Names/Opinions/ (which really should be "Opinions/Analysis/Research") Maybe I'll apply to be an editor for that sub-category to get my feet wet
harpe Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 Contact information looks totally different as I indicated - "despite" - plus, I use to work there. Trying calling their 1-800 numbers and you will see. Also, how about the logosharx.com triple listings....
Editall Callimachus Posted August 2, 2004 Editall Posted August 2, 2004 Also, how about the logosharx.com triple listings.... Having a site listed in Regional in addition to another topical category is not uncommon, and if warranted is perfectly acceptible. As to Computer and Business, you are correct and there should only be one listing, in this case the Computer/Graphics/Web/Banners one.
