Mr Question Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 I am sorry but I cannot find any other instance of that URL listed in the directory. If there is some other mirror of that site under a different URL I am not aware of it. It appears that the site is listed in the proper category based on the location information. If there is a mirror listed of it please give us the category and the URL. Thanks. It was removed the other day from http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Nevada/Localities/L/Las_Vegas/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate/Residential/Agents/ and I guess this one was just missed since it was in a different section of the directory.
thehelper Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 Why should it be removed? You are going to have to be specific - if it is a mirror site you are going to have to post what site it is mirroring and what category that the other site is listed in.
lazydog Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Category: http://dmoz.org/Arts/People/Image_Galleries/Female/ http://www.rcscs.co.uk/simplybeautiful/index.html - Msg. says site is closed. http://submitx2.com/starlets/ - under construction http://shadesofnwar.com/ - unable to open site for last 3 days. http://starletrealm.kimberlyjbrown.net/ - not resolving (NXDOMAIN), however http://www.kimberlyjbrown.net does exist.
lazydog Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 http://dmoz.org/Arts/People/Image_Galleries/Non-Gender_Specific/ http://www.cocoalounge.com/ - one page site, all links are external. http://www.kimsgalaxy.com/ - site unavailable http://195.22.6.201:30/index.html - non english site http://www.woofyburgers.com/ - Msg. says site is closed http://www.classmates.com/celeb/yearbook/ - no images (???)
Editall Callimachus Posted October 6, 2004 Editall Posted October 6, 2004 http://195.22.6.201:30/index.html - non english site Site is bilingual on page. http://www.classmates.com/celeb/yearbook/ - no images (???) Not sure what you mean here, there are images/graphics on the pages I looked at. lazydog Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Site is bilingual on page. Sorry about that. You are right!! Not sure what you mean here, there are images/graphics on the pages I looked at. I meant images related to - the category this site is listed in, as well as the description of the site - "Yearbook photographs of many celebrities sorted alphabetically and by campus activities.". I did not see any celebrity images.
jeanmanco Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 #774-7 I think there is a misunderstanding here. The Open Directory does not want to list mirrors of sites that we already have listed. But we do not remove a site simply because it has mirrors. We just want to avoid listing duplicate content. The business in question was listed under two URLs. One was removed. That is our normal procedure. Editors might have to take more severe action if someone spams the directory under many URLs, doorways, etc.
eitemiller Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Recreation: Outdoors: Directories - which does not have an editor, as far as I can tell... The first listing that reads "America Outdoors" (there are two listings with that title) probably should be called something else, that title has to be wrong. The listing "Outdoor Nature Hut" is a dead link, at least it is at the time of typing. The listing "Wild Indiana" has been "under constuction" for some time now. I love the title "Generic Page" - lol. Sure would be nice to see eatstayplay.com in that directory *hint* Hope this helps your directory out
jeanmanco Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 #784 dealt with, thanks for the help. Unlike Zeal, the Open Directory does not have a policy that no listing should have the exact same title as another listing. There is no problem with the title of the first "America Outdoors". The domain name is something different, but the title is that of the organisation (organization in US spelling.)

nareau Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Looking in: http://dmoz.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Advertising/Promotional_Products/Drinkware/ I found these links; both are broken. Arton - Provides custom imprinted glassware and ceramics. http://www.artonglass.emerchantpro.com/ Arton - Custom imprinting of glass and ceramic mugs, vases, pitchers, and wine glasses. http://www.glassimprinting.com/ Nareau
jeanmanco Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 #787 dealt with thanks. Arton shouldn't have been listed under two URLs of course. Looks like human error rather than abuse/spam this time though.
vegas Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 listed twice I found this website listed twice in two different category, actually this is second time Im reporting that, last time they were listed twice in the same category and you did good job on cleaning. here they are under: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Nevada/Localities/L/Las_Vegas/Arts_and_Entertainment/Music/DJs/ link1) Endless Music DJs under: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Nevada/Localities/L/Las_Vegas/Business_and_Economy/Entertainment_Services/ link2) Endless Music Entertainment Las Vegas hope this helps, please let me know if Im mistaken
CoreChild Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Dead links in the Corewar section In the following category: http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Simulation/Programming_Games/Core_War There are the following dead links: http://scramlings.de/~chris/projects/corewar.html http://r.webring.com/hub?ring=corewarwebring (an empty webring) A few of the pages have moved: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/corewar/corewar/ to http://corewar.co.uk/ http://de.geocities.com/fizmo_master/ to http://www.corewar.info/ http://students.fhs-hagenberg.ac.at/se/se00001/ to http://martinus.geekisp.com/ http://para.inria.fr/~doligez/corewar/corewarrior/ to http://home.pipeline.com/~corewar/corewarrior/ Thanks & regards, John Metcalf
Guest wrathchild Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 This is really appreciated, thanks. We are the ones who are appreciative. Dead links and hijacks are a priority concern for us. We always appreciate when someone lets us know about any that we haven't caught yet.
bugmenot Posted October 29, 2004 Posted October 29, 2004 anzwers - broken links/spam/etc. A large part of the sites containing anzwers are broken links/spam/low quality sites. Here are a few examples: http://anzwers.org/free/videopoker/ http://www.anzwers.org/free/weatherstar/morras/ http://anzwers.org/trade/logotipos http://www.anzwers.org/trade/evvivasposi/index.html http://www.anzwers.org/free/repede/ http://www.anzwers.org/free/eck/ http://www.anzwers.net/free/marx/ http://www.anzwers.net/trade/artefacta http://www.anzwers.net/free/gtonline/index.html
jeanmanco Posted October 29, 2004 Posted October 29, 2004 Thank you for the notification. I see that Anzwers provides free hosting, including Adult sites on the .net domain. We don't discuss Adult sites outside the Adult forum here. So this may need to be moved. In the meantime, I have removed anzwers.org/free/weatherstar/morras/ (hijacked) anzwers.org/trade/logotipos (dead) anzwers.org/trade/evvivasposi/index.html (dead) anzwers.org/free/repede (under construction) anzwers.org/free/eck (under construction) and been through the remaining anzwers.org listings and removed a few more which were dead, under construction or hijacked. Sites on domains which provide free hosting are usually each considered on its own merits. Admittedly a lot of sites on free hosts are of poor quality, but there are some which are outstandingly useful. See http://anzwers.org/free/universe/ In a few cases we consider such a domain as a whole. But it doesn't look as though this will turn out to be such a case.
Nochaos Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Cat with errors in all(5) entries. In the following cat, http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Philippines/Maps_and_Views/Photos/, there's something wrong in each of the 5 descriptions. 1. Misspelled word in first one. 2. In each of next 3, title is repeated in the description in one way or the other. 3. Name of the artist not completely correct. This may all seem to be extremely picky, but you do have your editorial guidelines and standards to adhere to, right?
thehelper Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 I personally am not going to do anything about #797. There are more pressing issues out there - if an editall passes by and decides to do a QC but there is no hijack, dead links or inapproriate ODP content here.
Nochaos Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Hong Kong this time... In http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Hong_Kong/Guides_and_Directories/, there are a few probs. Asiaco - A mixed bag of English and Chinese languages with the latter going to English sites.(?) The English stuff is moreover.com and other news sites that may already be listed. Hkseek seems dead. HK Online - I think this should be called Asiadragons. HK White Pages involves a redirect. Lycos Asia appears dead. TotallyHK.com url is wrong - it shows the secure form https, should just be http and site requires registration, if that's important or not. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Quote: There are more pressing issues out there - if an editall passes by and decides to do a QC but there is no hijack, dead links or inapproriate ODP content here. To each his own, but in the same time it took to write your response, the minor problems I pointed out probably could have been corrected.
jeanmanco Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Dealt with #797. I am happy to correct typos. Changes may not show immediately on the public side.
