jeff.saunders Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 #886 - dealt with, thanks. Yamaha TX500 Parts is working OK for me. All the rest as reported. Yes, I now can get to the site although I couldn't a couple of times previously - although it isn't much of a site - all 1 page of it - some guy trying to sell his motorcycle in parts...

Nochaos Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Chile/T&T/ In the cat, http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Chile/Travel_and_Tourism/ 1. Chile Contact url should be reduced to the root, imo. 2. Chilecallcenter has deeplinks to chile-hotels.com (listed 5 times) and to chile-tours.com (listed once). In http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Chile/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Guides/, 1. The cooled site, GoChile - why not list just the root url, http://www.gochile.cl/? 2. Chile, a return... not found. 3. Chilean Guide Services, not found. 4. Chiletrip, not found. 5. Discover-chile Tours is redirecting. 6. F&K has moved. 7. Lonely Planet - repeats title and description. 8. The Patagonian BaseCamp - am getting no info from this one. 9. Travel in Chile - suspended site. 10. Visit Chile Tours, site being updated. 11. World Surface - How many ampersands is too many? In http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Chile/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Services/Tour_Operators/ 1. Anitours asks for something I don't understand. 2. Chile Tours, see above (chilecallcenter). 3. Discover Chile with Cocha, see Discover-chile tours above. 4. Inca Tour Ltda., page not found. 5. Turismo Cocha, another r5.cocha.com site.

jeanmanco Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 #904 dealt with thanks. I'm really not sure what the title of the last site should be. I may have made the wrong decision, but if so I'm sure it will be swiftly corrected.
ukros Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Employment/Job_Search/ http://www.activelyseeking.co.uk/ - Description - ".... management application." use of the word application is open to two meanings in this context, one would make the grammar incorrect. ".... application management tools" might be a less confusing alternative. http://www.bankingjobsuk.co.uk/ - link not working. http://www.careercorner.co.uk/ - front page says there are 2 vacancies, after a lot of searching in various industry sectors I found one of them under Recruitment - lack of content? http://www.career.co.uk/ - Home page says this "We are currently re-organising ourselves under new management. We aim to have our sites running very soon. Good luck in your jobsearch elsewhere." http://www.charityjobs.co.uk/ - now redirects to http://www.charityjob.co.uk/ which is listed immediately above it. http://www.fortis-careermove.com/ - only has a few examples of jobs, last updated in September. "Lists jobs." in description should read "Lists job examples." or similar. Perhaps this one belongs in http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Employment/By_Sector/Marketing_and_Advertising/Agencies/ http://www.hrvacancies.com/ - search results produce broken links or pages saying that contact from agencies is unwelcome! http://www.internetprofessionals.co.uk/ - no jobs here at all that I can find. http://www.itjobpages.com/ - should probably be listed under its http://www.itjobpages.co.uk url. http://www.job-opps.co.uk/ - under construction. http://www.jobtosuityou.co.uk/ - business is closed. http://www.1job.co.uk/ - description needs attention? (Sorry!) http://www.jobpilot.co.uk/ - has merged with http://www.monster.co.uk/ which is already listed in the category. http://www.jobsin.co.uk/ http://www.planetrecruit.com/ http://www.jobtrack.co.uk/ are all part of the http://www.hotonline.com network. Jobsin is one of the two sites that hotonline say lists every job in the network, so is probably the most useful. http://www.jobsnake.com/ - job search seems to be USA only, very few posts in forum, quite a few affiliate links in other resources. http://www.jobsproactive.com/ - seems to have gone. http://www.justcvs.com/ - might not have employee searching, difficult to work out what is offered without registering, may need description amended. http://www.sales-and-marketing-jobs.co.uk/ - only seems to have one job listed. http://www.sixsigma-jobs.co.uk/ - domain is for sale, inactive. This is London http://jobs.thisislondon.co.uk/ redirects to http://www.londonjobs.co.uk/ http://www.tvjobshop.com/ - appears to be a mirror of http://jobs.co.uk/ which is already listed Visit - http://www.visit.haynet.com/ - domain not active. You might also like to look again at the following three listings with regard to content and affiliate links: http://www.jobszoo.com/ http://www.jobtube.com/ http://www.netjobs.co.uk/ There may be other mirrors and related sites within this category, they all started to look similar after a while!

jeanmanco Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 #906 dealt with, except for the Jobsin complexity and the last three. Maybe another editor will cast an eye over these. Many thanks for your careful assessment.
jvciii Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Dead Links I was checking my site, salonperfume.com, to see if it is already listed in the 'Top: Shopping: Health: Beauty: Fragrances' category (not listed yet) and later 'clicked' on all sites listed under the 'Top: Shopping: Health: Beauty: Fragrances' category and 'Top: Shopping: Health: Beauty: Perfume' category to see what are they offering and found the following sites not to be working. jeanmanco Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Working on #909. Thanks for your care. Actually our link checker removed most of the dead links on 26 November and others were removed by alert editors in the days since, but they may still be visible on the public side in some versions. I can't see them myself. Two were not picked up though and I have now taken them out, along with the site with changed content. So thanks again for that effort.
jvciii Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 you are welcome. if i have time i am sure i will do it again

Meta hutcheson Posted December 15, 2004 Meta Posted December 15, 2004 Thanks, man. Fixed. I also spent a while working in the general area. If (as I suspect) you have a site waiting there, I either kicked it closer to being reviewed, or cleared away some of the other waiting sites that otherwise might have distracted editors from it.

nzmember Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 Dead links in NZ A few possible dead links --------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Oceania/New_Zealand/Guides_and_Directories/ Links (http://www.links.co.nz) not a directory at all. "This site is mainly to attract customers to my bookshop, to advertise homestay, and house for sale web pages. The house is SOLD but I'll leave the pages..." Websites (http://www.websites.co.nz) (not a directory but a dating service) --------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Oceania/New_Zealand/Business_and_Economy/Computers_and_Internet/Search_Engines/ New Zealand Explorer (http://www.nze.co.nz) -- no longer a "fast, text-based search engine with a large site index" but a collection of building links Newzealand.co.nz (http://newzealand.co.nz) -- no longer a "web directory, search engine, country guide" etc but a shopping site Nzbase.com (http://www.nzbase.com) -- "Due to on-going commitments in other areas the nzbase.com editor has decided to discontinue the New Zealand search engine marketing and optimisation weblog" ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In checking for dead links (meaning not just pages with a 404 error etc) I've found it useful to open a page with Firefox, and then open each link in a new tab (not a new window). It speeds up the process considerably. Manually checking each link is important because often pages are hijacked by the domain registrar and return a page ok header.
Guest gimmster Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 #913 has been actioned with the exception of the http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Promotion/Search_Engine_Optimization_Firms/I/ listing. Can one company listed in two regional categories if offices are in both countries? In rare cases yes. Usually this is only when the 2 locations are extremely remote from each other and the site has information related to the 2 locations (more than just an address and phone number). The more normal approach would be to list at the level that includes the two localities (whether county, state, country, or even continent), but there is some leeway for sites which make nonsense of being listed at those levels - who would look for a two outlet pizza bar , one on the US side of the border, the other on the Canadian side, at Continent level? - in that case we'd list at the 2 locations, even though they are in different countries because that makes the directory useful. :tree:
Nochaos Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Chile/A&E, Transportation/ and Education/ A. In http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Chile/Arts_and_Entertainment/, 1. ArsLatino - Not found. 2. Chilean Handicraft - No description, plus title probably wrong. 3. Chilean handicrafts Export - Maybe Pueblos del Sur as title? 4. Chilean Marine Fauna's Pictures - Not found. 5. Fine Art Photography - Some error message. 6. MarioZ - Maybe expand desc a bit. 7. Marpau Art Gallery - Caps and Chile redundancy. 8. Marzolo chile film locations - Server's being upgraded. 9. Poetry of Pablo Neruda - desc redundancy. 10. Roos Film - Maybe I missed the English thru all the Flash or whatever it is... B. In http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Chile/Transportation/ 1. Cruceros Australis and Terra Australis both end up at the same place (http://www.australis.com/). C. In http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Chile/Education/ 1. Diego Portales Spanish School - Santiago - Title seems to be Latin Immersion and url ends up at http://www.latinimmersion.com/, so maybe shorten url to the root. 2. Linguatec International Language Centers - Seems to me the title should be Bridge Linguatec. 3. Lirima School - A minor point, should the title be in English or the official one in Espanol, i.e., COLEGIO INTERNACIONAL LIRIMA ? 4. Saint John's School - Description all caps - Every single word in caps! Really getting picky, aren't I? 5. Universidad de Viña del Mar - I'm seeing this as the International Office Exchange of UVM (also maybe take out index.html)
