A. In http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Colombia/Maps_and_Views/

 

1. Camilom is a lucky guy to get 2 of his same domain pages listed in the same cat, ie Camilo's Home Page and Slide Show, both with reciprocal deeplinks to each other.

 

2. Colombia Only Photos - I saw no photos here or much of anything else either.

 

 

B. In http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Colombia/Society_and_Culture/

 

1. Asociación Amigos de FANA Colombia - Saw no English here.

 

2. Christianity and Missions among the Motilone Bari Tribal Peoples of Colombia by Bruce Olson - That title is a tad long; maybe call it Motiline Bari Indians. (?)

 

3. DANE - is asking people to download something...

 

4. Scouts de Colombia Grupo 20 Andino 2000 - It may be the official homepage, but it doesn't say much - in English anyway.

1. Manuel Patarroyo - Third World Traveler - This is a site describing the research efforts of a highly controversial biochemist. He claims to have developed a 30% effective malaria vaccine in the late 1980's. According to the CDC, even now there is no current vaccine (See http://www.cdc.gov/travel/diseases/malaria/index.htm). Even after MP gave his "vaccine" to WHO for free, WHO apparently decided not to test it saying that 30% is not good enough. The description for this site is misleading; readers might assume there is such a malaria vaccine when, in fact, there is none. At the very least, if this site is going to remain listed under Health/, I think it should somehow be identified as one where MP's results are not universally accepted as fact. (Btw, this is an area where Bill Gates is throwing several hundreds of millions of dollars in an effort to produce such a vaccine.)

Item #931 processed,

Manuel Patarroyo has been sent to a Health category for review as it had no specific Regional focus. It was not removed because of medical non acceptance, and will possibly be relisted with other appropriate sites in a Health category. As a general rule we dont make a judgement on a sites credentials, but would list it among all views on an issue, so the surfer can find sites that present both sides of a case.

Thanks for checking these sites, we do appreciate quality control.

Site Listed in Two Categories

 

The site http://www.accesskansas.org/ksparalegals/ is listed in the following categories:

 

I'm not totally sure of the policy regarding Regional listings, but from what I've read in ODP documents, I thought this was questionable, or at least not consistant, as other sites with very similar content are not listed in both categories. The http://dmoz.org/Society/Law/Organizations/Paralegals/United_States/Kansas/ category is the most appropriate location for this site.

As for #933, I don't see a problem. We often allow a listing in both a Regional and topical category. The fact that some sites could be double listed and aren't just reflects the fact that the directory is not yet complete - and will always be a work in progress.

Hi all,

 

I've spent the last 2 hours checking the sites listed in 4 categories: http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Computer_Platforms/Windows/Downloads/ , http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Shareware/Directories/ , http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Shareware/Developers/ and http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Shareware/Collections/ and found dozens of sites that shouldn't be listed, at least according to the Open Directory Editing Guidelines (http://dmoz.org/guidelines/include.html), correct me if I'm wrong...

1 - Alive Games - Site consisting only of affiliate (Regnow.com and Reflexive.com) links and content, including images, games' descriptions, etc. No original content, all images and text are exactly the same images and text you'll find in dozens of other affiliate sites.

2 - Energarmes - same as above, Regnow only

3 - Free Download Games - same.... Regnow

4 - Game Avenue - .... Trygames

5 - Game Xcite - .... Regnow

6 - GameDemo - Mirror of Trygames.com!

I've done the hard work of finding those sites, now I'm curious to see if they are going to be removed or not...

Blue Dojo - Same as Astatix Software. Games developer? Affiliate links/content developer would be more correct...

Wrong phone number on 1clickguide.com

The phone number for the Satellite Airline Ticket Office at 1 E 59th St, New York, NY is incorrect (I know this for a fact). I don't know if this post is in the right place, but this directory seems to use ODP data. I would really appreciate it if someone could change this. The correct data is one of these:

Greyline NY Tours - 212-759-4205 - 1 E 59th Street or

Satellite Airlines Center - 212-486-9290 - 110 E 59th Street

 

Please email me if you know where else I should go to get this changed.

I've made a first pass through and updated the redirects.

 

Where those mini sites are the only sites for a particular agent or agency they may still be listable, depending on content. If this is the case they need to be thought of as hosted sites, in the same way that geocities hosts sites.

 

More checking will be required, and I'm too tired to do it tonight.

By some miracle, http://www.webphotoschool.com/ has managed to get itself listed under http://dmoz.org/Arts/Photography/Education

 

First comment: this site's description is "Provides fee-based lessons online for beginning through advanced photographers"... but after much detective work involving seeing the very frequent use of phrases such as "Add to card", "Shopping Cart", "Checkout"... shouldn't this site live under http://dmoz.org/Shopping/ ? :-)

 

Second: 99% of the content on this site isn't free - why is it listed so high up under http://dmoz.org/Arts/Photography/Education/ ? The category description says "Very few sites will be listed at the top level. Please find the subcategory that most closely describes the type of photography education you offer and submit to that subcategory." - how come this site managed to get listed?

 

Third comment: almost every page on this site has multiple links to http://www.photoflex.com - in fact, every time a product is mentioned, it's more than likely to be a photoflex product, and if it *is* a photoflex product, you can be sure it links though to http://www.photoflex.com

 

HEY, what an amazing coincidence: check the WHOIS information for webphotoschool.com:

Report of Innappropriate Content

 

Greetings,

I had recently suggested a site for consideration WhyDoWork.com in

Business:Small Business:Home Office

and was informed it may have been deleted for review for having affiliate content on the site. (contains maybe 2-5% affiliate content at any given time)

 

The following sites in the submitted category contain heavy amounts of affiliate links and it was advised that they be reported:

The following category has some issues. Some are abusive, most not.

"Digital City - Lake Tahoe" -Goes to Sacramento.

"High Sierra WorldWeb Travel Guide" -Should be in Sierra Nevada (or not).

"Lake Tahoe, Nevada" -Should be Nevada.

"Tahoe Central" -Redirects to web design firm.

"Tahoe City Marina" -Should be Tahoe City.

"Tahoe Tom" -Lots of broken links, broken images, and lots of links to one site.

"Tahoe's Magical West Shore" -A book sold on a site that already has a listing.

 

And thats about it.

denied because of not listing all affiliations

 

I applied to the shopping>crafts>ceramics>decoration>handpainted category. I listed that I am affiliated with both the sites.

 

Since ATM these are the only 2 sites I am affiliated with and working on I did not feel the need to list my entire clientele list on the application. And I got a note not to re-apply as an edior again on the rejection of the application.

 

So since I am not allowed to re-apply, can some editor take a look at the category to clean out all the bad URL's that are cluttered in it? I know you guys are busy and that is why I applied as an editor. Anyways here is a list of the problems:

#1 - Aunt Bea's Ceramics - "We have gone out of business as og 2003" page.

#3 - DragonLady Projects - is a studio for animation, films, and video effects

#12 Rosehawke Studio - 1 page saying anything about ceramics the rest is picture of renovating a house. If it has to stay in the category it should link to - http://www.rosehawke.com/html/sculpture.html

#14 - Set in Stone - bad URL page not found

#15 - Sheila's Ceramic Art - Page saying sorry this web site is closed

#16 - Switchwitch.com - page not found bad URL

"Lake Tahoe, Nevada" -Should be Nevada. - the CA and Nevada Tahoe Region categories were combined some years ago.

"Tahoe Tom" -Lots of broken links, broken images, and lots of links to one site.

I didn't spot broken links in the few I tried, the broken images are annoying but dont detract from the text content, I emailed the author, so will check again in a few days.
