Tommyl Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Thanks jeanmanco for handling my previous post #1047. I have a question regarding the second listing in post #1047 http://accessmortgagecorp.com. I originaly posted it because when I went through the site some links didn't work, for example the loan programs link was dead, other links such as apply, login, and prequalify point to the contact page, and the calculator link points to the home page. Would this site be considered under construction or would it be just poor navagation? And considering that most links point to the same page, is there enough relevant unique content to keep it listed in this directory? Also here are some more links to be checked and reviewed: Links are dead or have changed into a directory. in http:// http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Mortgages/Regional/United_States/Massachusetts/ http://findthelowestrate.com - FindTheLowestRate.com http://mmch.com - Massachusetts Mortgage Clearing House http://moneyformortgages.com - The Mortgage Stop, Inc in http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Mortgages/Regional/United_States/New_York/ http://nymch.com - New York Mortgage Clearing House http://topnycapts.com - TopNYCapts.com in http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Mortgages/Regional/United_States/Rhode_Island/ http://rimch.com - Rhode Island Mortgage Clearing House in http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Mortgages/Regional/United_States/Texas/ http://accesshome.net - Access Home http://texasmortgageloan.net - Texas Mortgage Loan http://texasmortgagesearch.com - Texas Mortgage Search Regards

maryando80 Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 How http://www.blinds-2go.co.uk/ controls the windows categories in DMOZ It is obvious that http://www.blinds-2go.co.uk/ controls the category “windows” http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Windows/ because they have managed to introduce a one page website http://www.blindslink.co.uk/ which is called “The Directory of Manufacturers and Suppliers of Window Blinds” but it only contains a link to another website of blinds-2go.co.uk . How is it possible to introduce a one page website if the category is not controlled? They also control http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Windows/Window_Coverings/Blinds/ because they have listed http://www.mailorderblinds.co.uk/ that redirects to another website of blinds-2go.co.uk the http://www.blinds-bar.co.uk/ . Oh it seems that they want to edit all the windows categories in the DMOZ because on http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Construction_and_Maintenance/Materials_and_Supplies/Doors_and_Windows/ they have managed to list another website http://www.verticall-window-blinds.co.uk/ that redirects to http://www.blinds-bar.co.uk/ a website of blinds-2go.co.uk. I am sorry but I think in this case blinds-2go.go.co.uk is the offender.
jeanmanco Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 #1074 - Please bear in mind that websites can change owners and /or content. It is one of the huge problems that any directory faces. An editor can list a site in good faith as a directory. Then it is bought up and becomes a doorway page. As you can see in the Internet Archive http://web.archive.org/web/20020119111215/http://www.blindslink.co.uk/ was a directory for years. Similarly, you can check for yourself that when the two other sites were listed in 2001, neither was redirecting anywhere. We certainly want to know when something like this has happened. The listings have been removed. Secondly no single editor can control a category. Even if an editor is listed for a category, any editor in categories above can also edit there, plus all the 300 or so editors who have permissions throughout the directory. All these sites were listed by different editors. They were looked at for various reasons by a bunch of other editors, but not recently, which is why these switches had not been picked up. So thanks for letting us know.
