Alucard Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 Item 1076: The Linux for Beginners won't work, because it is not in English. I didn't change the Open Source Educational Society/University listing - that's just to a default page and we don't list those. Thanks very much for the heads-up! I have dealt with them.

bilfar2 Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 A few problems in: http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Thailand/Health/ 1. Asia Ayurveda International looks more like a hotel, in fact it's really called Health Oasis Resort and has health programs. 2. Balavi Natural Health Center has a new url at http://www.balavi.com/ 3. Body Guard Condoms, large size can't be found. 4. The two Samui sites - should they not be in Samui? Also looking further, the 2nd wants you to go from http://www.hipreplacesurgery.com/ to http://www.cosmeticsurgerythailand.com/ which also happens to be the 1st Samui entry (Samui Clinic). So, same company listed twice in a row here in Health. 5. Society of Plastic..... restates the very long title in the description. 6. Spa and massage..... a very long title. And while I'm at it, in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Thailand/Maps_and_Views/ 1. A Lovely World... Chiang is misspelled. (In my view, so is Sukhothai, but at least the site is internally consistent with Sukhotai) 2. Thailand Maps consists of a number of external links on its left-hand navigation panel, the first two of which are already listed. I didn't check the others, but it looks like there are some redundant listings here. 3. Thailand Photo Gallery now has over 500, not just 237, images and is everyone convinced they are all "high quality"? 4. Treasures of Thailand has a new url at http://www.xs4all.nl/~devadeep/ and also has over 1,000 images rather than the listed 400.
jeanmanco Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 #1078 dealt with thanks, except for Speedread. Looks like that may be a temporary problem.
maryando80 Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Hi jeanmanco, I would like to point out the fact that you run from time to time certain scripts establishing dead links or redirects, but those two always escaped the removals and that on http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Windows/ ; http://www.blindslink.co.uk/ is for longer than three months a one page website serving a link to another website “recommended supplier” http://www.specialistblinds.co.uk/ . That is not a directory I have to say…

jeanmanco Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 #1082 - When it was listed in 2001 blindslink.co.uk was a directory. Clearly it has been a doorway page for some months as you say. That is why it has now been removed and I thank you for letting us know. That change of content could not be picked up by a link checker. Nor are all redirects picked up. Nothing entirely replaces the human eye. So thank you again for letting us know.
bilfar2 Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 In the cat http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Thailand/Arts_and_Entertainment/ 1. contempfineart.com - Cap the title? and how about that description? 2. JitdraThanee.com - "packed full of information", that's almost as good as "and more". 3. Kalayanapongsa, Angkarn - 2nd entry for this is 404. 4. Mr. Vipoo - Altho a Thai, I'm not sure how much this site has to do with Thailand as it's based in Australia and the work doesn't seem related to T'land. 5. Thaifood99 - Delivers food to your home, not quite S&C I think. 6. Thail My Way - parked at network solutions. In http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Thailand/Society_and_Culture/ 1. Beautiful Thailand - Looks more like a guide than an S&C entry. 2. Thai Indian - A parked site. 3. Thailand: "The Land of Smiles" - Travel guide looks like. 4. Thailand Travelers Community - Redirects to Google front page. In http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Thailand/Society_and_Culture/Religion/Buddhism/ 1. Thai Buddhism - Page gone, but root url is listed elsewhere anyway. 2. sulak-sivaraksa.org: A Buddhist View from Below. - I think the title needs improving. In http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Thailand/Society_and_Culture/Religion/Christianity/ 1. Danish Missionaries ... - Redirects to an AIDS site. In http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Thailand/Society_and_Culture/Organizations/ 1. Association of Thai Computer Industry - An S&C site? 2. Bangkok St. Andrew's Society - Moved to http://www.bangkokscot.com/ 3. Gibbon ... - This and the next 3 sites seems to me to go to Phuket? In fact, 3 of the 4 sites are phuket.com domains - way too many for one cat I would say. 4. St. Patrick's Society of Bangkok - This is the same as item 2 above (St. Andrews...). ---------------------------- ps - Am I giving you too much at one time?

bilfar2 Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I am not quite sure what to make of the following 2 categories at the country level. Almost of the sites in the first cat. are either in the wrong location, imo, or they are completely in Thai it seems. I think I saw only 1 or 2 sites that might properly belong here at least as I understand the guidelines. In the second cat., most are based in a single location. Let me know if I'm not understanding something basic here - I thought sites listed at the country level should cover more than a single location, and all sites should have easily readable English somewhere on the site. Thanks, bilfar. http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Thailand/Recreation_and_Sports/ 1. It looks like the first 4 sites should be located in Bangkok 2. Ban's Diving Resort - this one in Surathani? 3. Dive Master Co. Ltd - Liveaboard has offices in BKK and Phuket (so maybe it's OK), 4. Frontosa Ornamental Fish - seems all Thai. 5. Iyengar Yoga Center - looks like only BKK. 6. Liverpool in Thailand - Any English here? Some links are written in Eng, but the content is all Thai. 7. Next 3 would seem to belong in Phuket. 8. Ride in Peace : Bicycle Stunts BMX Thailand - All Thai 9. Score Today - all Thai 10. Siam Swim - all Thai 11. Sport Fishing - Flies Store - In Chiang Mai only? 12. Thailand Grand Touring Car Championship - all Thai 13. Thailand Karate-do - All in Thai 14. Thailand Sport Online - All Thai. http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Thailand/Recreation_and_Sports/Golf/ 1. Chiangmai-Lamphun Golf Club - Location Chiang Mai 2. Phuket golf club and courses... - Location Phuket 3. ThaiGolfGuide.com - May be OK as country guide to golf. 4. Thailand Golf Course - Looks like a tour company based in Phuket.
Rodjer Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 Old domains with new owners (hijacks) Hiya, I found sereval domains, who were regged after being dead and are in dmoz. The content is on every domain thesame PPC in Holland, so this isn't good. Here they are: http://www.soroptimistclub-vpr.nl http://www.123-vierdaagse.nl http://www.salesprobusinessconsulting.nl http://www.websuite.nl http://www.demooistearbeidsvoorwaarden.nl http://www.www-web.nl http://www.artissum.nl http://www.designplus.nl http://www.extremeproductions.nl http://www.online-etiketten.nl Good luck and i hope they get unregged in DMOZ
jeanmanco Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 #1089 - dealt with this. Many of these sites were listed years ago, when the provincial categories had not been built out. Sites in Thai should never have been listed in the English-language directory, but errors get made. (Or perhaps the site had an English-language version once upon a time.) In any case - not to worry about whys and wherefores. Why not apply for another category in Thailand and have fun sorting things out?
bilfar2 Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 In any case - not to worry about whys and wherefores. Why not apply for another category in Thailand and have fun sorting things out? Yeah, I would take care of a lot of these things myself but it'll take a long time to get the permissions to access and send things all over the place like you've been doing (and still have them listed). I just got into Trang, a small southern province, and will probably just go from province to province gradually where no-one's been in a long time, if ever. I've been trying to identify problems at the country level area because it's the first thing people may see in the country, and there are a lot of problems there. But I do appreciate your efforts to fix them when found. I may get there someday, but it'll be some time before that happens.
qwerty Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 I hope I'm posting this in the right place. The site http://www.eveo.com/ is listed at http://dmoz.org/Arts/Movies/Filmmaking/Online_Venues/Amateur_Filmmakers/ The domain has apparently changed hands and is no longer relevant to the category. The site there now belongs to a company that creates rich media content for healthcare companies.
jeanmanco Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 #1091 - most of these were deleted from the directory three weeks ago, but artissum.nl was missed, so thanks for letting us know. I have now removed it.
jeanmanco Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 #1094 - Yes you have come to the right place, thank you. Problem now fixed.
ttyre Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 Dead link The Polish Officer site: http://www.cyberonic.com/~mcmanaman/officer.html listed in this directory: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Poland/Society_and_Culture/History/World_War_II/ is dead.
jeanmanco Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 #1097 - removed now, thanks. The change may not show immediately on the public side.
