One 'owner' different urls - two listings in same section

in

Top: Arts: Performing Arts: Dance: Folk Dancing: Eastern European (73)

# BalkanFolk - Touch and feel the spirit of the Balkan arts: workshop for Balkan folklore, musical instruments, CD, Bulgarian folk music, national folklore costumes.

# Balkanfolk 2001 - A seminar focusing on the folk arts in Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania and Macedonia. Topics include folklore dances, singing and musical instruments gaida, kaval, duduk, gadoulka, tamboura, tapan embroidery. Scheduled for July 2001 in Pamporovo - Bulgaria.

are the same people (balkanfolk.com).

The Balkanfolk 2001 (a balkanfolk.com workshop) actually points to Balkenfolk 2005 which is duplicated in BalkanFolk.

4. acommodation - 5

5. tarriff - 5

6. tarrif - 2

7. millitary - 5

8. summery - 11 (though it looks like 3 are OK)

#1274 dealt with, thanks. I am leaving the last listing you mentioned where it is, but the other two had changed content, it seems.

#1254 has now been done, some of the urls work again now, the others have been dealt with appropriately.

#1275 dealt with, thanks. The site you thought was listed in a different category in the Google Directory is not listed there, as far as I can see, but certainly music sites should be in a music category.

Changes may not appear immediately on the public side of the directory, but should be visible within a day or two.

Society: Ethnicity: Slavic: Sorb - 1 broken link, 2 foreign language sites

Society: Ethnicity: Slavic: Sorb

Sorben-Wenden.de - All about Sorbian culture

Sorbs of Lusatia - About the culture, history and dates of Sorbs of Lusatia

This last is all in German/Sorbic except for the link kultura/Kultur (top left corner) which leads to a page that duplicates Sorben-Wenden.de

IMHO Sorben-Wenden.de should be left and Sorbs of Lusatia moved to the appropriate world category.

Nase Sule - Unsere Schulen - The struggle of Sorbs to preserve their minority school network

Appears to be entirely in german/sorbic - move to the appropriate world category?

Sorb National Anthem - In mp3 format

gives a 404 error - Page you looking for does not exist or was moved to different place.

#1279 all fixed, although I found only 37 matches for no.1 and several of them were in the URL. Thanks for pointing out these errors.

Good work, I'm impressed someone corrected these items so fast. The 69 came from searching, obviously I suppose, but the actual 37 or so justified correction nonetheless.

Hijacked link

Aloha,

Our domain was "snatched up" as you so eloquently described at the beginning of this thread. (Unfortunately an oversight on my part.)

The "hijacker" has links to adult content, gambling, etc.

Previously listed as shelldave.com, the new url's are shelldave.net (preferred listed url) & shelldavekauai.com.

I also feel the category would be better suited as

Shopping: Jewelry: Handcrafted: Ethnic and Regional.

Should I update the listing in addition to this posting?

Thank you for your time and energy.

Jennifer

#1289 - Thanks for letting us know. You could simply have put in an update request. They are currently being dealt with very promptly in Shopping. But as you have posted here, I have updated the URL and category. (I agree that the site seems better suited to Ethnic and Regional.) The change may not be visible immediately on the public side. It should show up in a day or two.

Shama - even one typo or spelling error justifies correction. I was just slightly puzzled by the difference between your search result and mine. I suspect that the answer may lie in the date of the database being used for search.

Not to worry. Accommodation is one of the most frequently mis-spelled/mis-typed words. So periodically an editor will search the directory for common errors in it, as you did. So if I missed any, they will get picked up at some point I expect.

#1280 dealt with as far as I am able to do so without knowledge of the language. I have alerted the appropriate editor.

[update] On investigation the editor found that two of the orginal four CroDream sites listed had gone dead. One link had already been removed from the public side by an alert editor. But since the directory's search database had not been updated, the listing was still showing in search results. The other dead link I removed this morning.

The editor is re-reviewing the two live links. One appears to have changed its content after listing.

Jean re: 1291

ODP search finds some plural spellings in descriptions as well - but doesn't seem to find them all bizarrely.

Whereas the internal search tool I suspect you are using will find the complete word searched on only.

So a search on the mispellings: "accomodation" and "accomodations" separately would be needed to pick up the lot I think.

Posted

Thanks Andy. Yes I was using the internal search tool. I'll run it again with the plural.

[Edited to add] That's finally done.

Aloha again,

I'm just wondering if the previous listings that this person "hijacked" from us...do they get changed/corrected, too?

If one types in "shell dave" into dmoz.org's search box, our site's title & description comes up:

Shell Dave's Kauai & Kahelelani Shell Jewelry

but it has the old url (shelldave.com)

It is in category: Shopping: Crafts: Jewelry: Thematic: Animals and Nature

Same thing if searching for "Shell Jewelry".

I hate the idea of these people prospering with sex/gambling links from our Shell Jewelry listing.

Our new url is shelldave.net.

Thank you and have a great day!

Jennifer

nrapt - don't worry. The search facility always lags behind changes in the directory, since it runs on its own database, which is updated periodically. If you look at the actual category, you will see that the change has been made. Search will eventually catch up.
