SK1244 Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 All DMOZ Sites 301’d Hi There, I just discovered a guy with four separate websites which, due to the way he’s linking to dmoz, illegally and permanently hijacks every site contained in dmoz to each of his four sites via 301 redirect commands. ie: http://www.hijackersite1.com/red.php?http://www.widgetsite.com/ Server Response: http://www.hijackersite1.com/red.php?http://www.widgetsite.com Status: HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently Date: Thu, 15 Sep 2005 23:15:41 GMT Server: Apache Location: http://www.hijackersite1.com/iasodp/red.php?http://www.widgetsite.com Content-Length: 279 Keep-Alive: timeout=10, max=300 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Two of his sites are also listed in dmoz. Doubt I can list his URLs here, but please let me know how I can provide them via email to the moderator. I’ve done the dmoz abuse form, however I’m concerned that that’s most likely a very long que. And I’m fairly clueless as to if I’m even posting this correctly Thanks so much!
Meta hutcheson Posted September 17, 2005 Meta Posted September 17, 2005 Any URL that has a 301 redirect, please post here: we do want to get those cleaned up ASAP.

motsa Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I'm not quite sure what the problem is here -- I click on http://www.mesothelioma-support.org/red.php?http://www.coping-with-bipolar.com/ and I get to http://www.coping-with-bipolar.com exactly as I should. The fact that a user of ODP data is using a redirecting script to link to the listed sites instead of a direct one really isn't abuse of ODP data as far as I can see. Am I missing something?
SK1244 Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 301 continued Hi Motsa, Although the link actually goes to my page, go to http://www.searchengineworld.com/cgi-bin/servercheck.cgi and insert http://www.computerrescue911.com/red.php?http:/// You’ll see that the header code actually reads: Server Response: http://www.computerrescue911.com/red.php?http:// Status: HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2005 19:08:55 GMT Server: Apache Location: http://www.computerrescue911.com/911odp/red.php?http:// Content-Length: 290 Keep-Alive: timeout=10, max=300 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Note the “Status: HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently” line and the “Location: http://www.computerrescue911.com/911odp/red.php?http://” line – therefore it’s my understanding that he’s actually illegally and permanently redirected my site to underneath his, as well as creating a duplicate of my page content. The same is true of http://www.iaswww.com/red.php?http:///. Note, iaswww.com is redirected from iasweb.com. However I just noticed that although the 301 header is also used, http://www.mesothelioma-support.org/red.php?http:/// actually does show my correct location.
SK1244 Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Afraid I may not be explaining this too well. Go to http://www.iaswww.com. Click Health in the web directory. Click Senior Health. Click Nutrition. Copy the link location for Egg Nutrition Center, which is http://www.iaswww.com/red.php?http://www.enc-online.org/, and run a header check – you’ll see the same problem.
SK1244 Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Thank you all for your time, guidance. . .and perhaps most of all your patience with me They are all greatly appreciated and I think I'm finally clear about what needs to be done.
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted September 18, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted September 18, 2005 I'm pretty sure that he's redirected the redirector to your site properly to your site. In any case, even if he wasn't doing it properly -- there's nothing you or we can do about it.
Meta hutcheson Posted September 18, 2005 Meta Posted September 18, 2005 There's nothing special about your site there. That's the way they do all their links. And they're probably running some kind of Googlehack (which is not our issue). If you think it's affecting your site positioning at Google, then report it to Google.

Meta andysands Posted September 19, 2005 Meta Posted September 19, 2005 I've removed the 20megs.com listing which was a doorway page. Thanks for the heads up. Please note - the http://www.psychicrealm.com site tried to install an activex control by an unknown publisher on my machine. It was blocked by SP2 - but looking at url it may be a dialer of some sort. Totally unacceptable behaviour for a site - so have delisted it too.
wjcampbe Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 @ #1513 In IE it offered to install an ActiveX control. I did not accept. In Opera and Firefox, there was no activex offer. Agree the site appears to have no navigable links and therefore no content.

dvh Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Same site listed twice in the same category In http://dmoz.org/Health/Addictions/Substance_Abuse/Resources/ Both of these urls go to the same site. http://www.dol.gov/dol/workingpartners.htm Working Partners for an Alcohol- and Drug-Free Workplace - Searchable database on substance abuse, state and territory laws, drug-free workplace advisor. http://www.dol.gov/asp/programs/drugs/workingpartners/Screen1.htm Workplace Substance Abuse - The Small Business Workplace Kit provides resources and information to help employers make their workplaces alcohol and drug free. A program by the U.S. Department of Labor. Also, any progress on the issue mentioned in post #1493? It was a situation where 2 doorway pages, plus the "real" site are all listed. Furthermore, one of the doorway pages is in an inappropriate (IMHO) category. Thanks.
