riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Inappropriate listing? Category: /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/Adams/ Website: AF Web Hosting Comments: This company is located in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. These links Contact Us and About Us very clearly announce their physical location and also their parent company’s location. Should it be listed in subcategory of local localities of Adams, Wisconsin?
riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Why does this subcategory exist? Category: /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/Algoma,_Town_of/ Comments: We have this /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/Algoma/ subcategory in the very same /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/ subcategory. This particular section has 13 listings. The subcategory in question has just one. Was this subcategory created to list this one site?
riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Inappropriate local subcategory Category: /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/Allenton/Business_and_Economy/ Website: Maysteel LLC Comments: The home page very clearly states that the physical location of this entity is N89 W14700 Patrita Drive, Menomonee Falls WI 53052-1240. There is a subcategory for Menomonee Falls /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/M/Menomonee_Falls/ with 48 listings. Isn’t this the proper home for this website?
riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Additional information on #1651 The parent company WR2000 Group LLC is listed in /Computers/Programming/Internet/CGI/Installers_and_Consultants/ subcategory. As you might have noticed, this is a dead link.
riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Why is this website listed? Category: /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/Amery/ Website: Brian Kuhl's Homepage Comments: Is there really any reason why this site was listed? It has absolutely no value to visitors other than looking at popup ads and dead links. I doubt that this is the definition of “unique content”. There is a Christmas list, consisting of no list.
riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Dead link Category: /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/Antigo/Business_and_Economy/ Website: Gunkel's Bakery Comments: WHOIS search shows the domain expiration of September 15, 2005. The website link is dead.
riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 A deep link with no content Category: /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/Antigo/ Website: Snowtracks.com Comments: Nothing to see here people. Keep moving.
riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Different urls, same website, same name, same subcategory Categorey: /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/Appleton/Business_and_Economy/Automotive/ Websites: Les Stumpf Ford and Les Stumpf Ford Comments: The urls point to different sections of the same website. I understand that deep linking is acceptable and permitted in ODP, but this is, in my opinion, is stretching the definition of “unique content” to the point of irrelevance.
riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Is this site dead? Category: /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/A/Appleton/Business_and_Economy/Computers_and_Internet/ Website: ANewVision Comments: I can not access this site. I was redirected to google a few times. Other times the request just simply timed out.
jeanmanco Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 #1651 was dealt with by another editor. #1653 now dealt with, thanks. #1654 dealt with, thanks. Note that businesses can move. Sometimes they let us know, sometimes not.
jeanmanco Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 #1652 - this is confusing for someone on the other side of the globe, like me, but I believe that these are two different places: The Town of Algoma, with a population of 6034, is located along Highways 41 and 21, adjacent to the City of Oshkosh's west side. Algoma (which calls itself a city) has a population of 3357. It is located 30 miles east of Green Bay on Highways 54 & 42.
jeanmanco Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 #1655 - the site was listed long ago, when there was probably little else for the locale. Thanks for pointing out that it doesn't meet our present standards. #1656 dealt with, thanks.
riz Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 #1652 I live in Wisconsin. I should have done the research before I submitted the message. I apologize for wasting your time on this.
jeanmanco Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Not to worry. The one site for Town of Algoma needed a URL and title update anyway.
jeanmanco Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 #1657 dealt with, thanks. #1658 - not a deep link problem, but thanks for pointing it out. In fact it is a case of fraternal sites, which has been dealt with. #1659 dealt with, thanks.

riz Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Is this appropriate? Category: /Regional/North_America/United_States/Wisconsin/Localities/B/Baraboo/ Websites: Baraboo and Barboo Chamber of Commerce Comments: The second link is a page on the main website. It is easily accessible through a large button at the top of the page of the main website. Does the second listing adds any value?

jeanmanco Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Thanks. I had spotted it myself when looking for something (I'm in Bristol), but I forgot to fix the urls in the ODP. I'll get on to it. [Added] Those are fixed and the other listings from that site.
