#2111 - The category seems fine to me. This is a directory of self catering rental accommodation in the UK & Ireland. It has some links at the bottom of the page to related sites for other parts of the world, but those don't make it a world-wide directory.

Shame on ODP

 

Obviously this DMOZ is pretty lame, the ODP (DMOZ) apparently does not take this project seriously and neglects this entire site. I posted the message quoted here 6 months ago. Of course nothing has been done about the listing, - I doubt anyone even looked at the message. DMOZ is a shameful project indeed, lacking in determination responsibilty and fraught with neglect. A disreputable source of mis-information.

 

 

The following change needs to be made to this listing since it no longer offers recipes or active advice columns

I posted the message quoted here 6 months ago.

 

If you had gone and checked the posts following your original request you would have noticed it was reviewed a couple of days after you posted it. (See item #1456 in this thread)

 

As mentioned in that particular post, if you want to suggest an update in the title or description, you should submit an update request. This thread is for quality control issues as stated in the first post.

 

Of course nothing has been done about the listing, - I doubt anyone even looked at the message.

 

Update requests can be declined if the suggested alterations do not follow our editorial guidelines.

Just to clarify. The above is absolutely true. Many update requests are ignored, because they do not meet our guidelines.

 

However - in this particular case the description was out of date and was rectified on 28 July 2005. The suggested new description was not used. Instead an accurate new description was created, similar to others in the category, removing the references to features no longer on the site.

 

Chickens - what makes you think that nothing was done about the listing?

I understand that most of the links in this last category, which I suppose to be still fairly popular, are very old, and that these are "fan" pages, but it seems that average quality of websites listed here is very very low. Indeed, this is also because many free web hosting services have gone crazy with their ads on their users' websites, but, as a matter of fact, some of the websites have entirely broken navigation bars and menus thanks to the ads thrown into the page by angelfire or geocities. If I am able to get editor status again on my older category, I would like to apply to become an editor also in this category, once I have gained enough experience. Things seem much more complex today than they were some years ago.

I have treated Kroll and Ontrack as the same company. I have treated Vogon and Ibas as the same company. So that means that we would not want separate listings from (for example) Kroll and Ontrack in the same category. It would not benefit our users. Each listing should lead to unique content.

Simon - I already saw the news of the acquisition of IBAS on the Kroll website. I mentioned it in one of my posts above. What further proof would I need?

 

What I have tried to explain is that an acquistion may not result in the immediate removal of ODP listings for the bought company. Give it a few months and we will probably see the Kroll website(s) giving all the information that is now only available in the IBAS sites. By all means return then and nag some more.
