jeanmanco Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 #2121 dealt with, thanks. Especial thanks for finding a replacement url. I found another - for the RollingStone link. #2122 dealt with, thanks. It would be good to have an editor for the category.
Charlescc Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Jean, I would love to become an editor there if I am reinstated - I should know in a couple of weeks, maybe more; but if this happens, I think I will still need a bit of practice with the new system. I suppose a lot of things have changed since 2001. Anyhow, more stuff... sorry for bothering but I had "human crawler mode" set to ON. Missed a couple in Nirvana category, plus I found some more in Foo Fighers' category (which, by the way, contains an amazing number of great websites I did not know). http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/N/Nirvana RollingStone.com: Nirvana http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/default.asp?oid=76 moved/followed your suggestion, here is the new link http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/nirvana/ http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/N/Nirvana/Grohl,_Dave/ could include a "see also" link to http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/F/Foo_Fighters/ Like it's done in the other band's components' subdirectories? http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/F/Foo_Fighters/ (great category, lot of stuff I did not know even existed!) Jack Feeny Reviews The Foo Fighters http://www.geocities.com/jackfeeny/foo.htm moved/new link is http://www.jackfeenyreviews.com/foo.htm RollingStone.com: Foo Fighters http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/default.asp?oid=63 moved/new link is http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/foofighters http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/F/Foo_Fighters/Fan_Pages/ Disenchanted Lullaby's http://www.angelfire.com/punk4/foofighters/ moved/ http://www.disenchantedlullabys.vze.com/ Stacked Actors http://www.angelfire.com/rock/foonet/ hijack/this redirects to website: http://thedst.com/foofighters/ already in the directory in the category http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/F/Foo_Fighters/ Foo Fighters - One By One http://www.geocities.com/fooonebyone/index.html placeholder/website might be back? Meta Artisands Posted January 31, 2006 Meta Posted January 31, 2006 Item 2127 is done with the following exceptions: Grohl,_Dave category was not found and http://www.angelfire.com/rock/foonet/ looked OK. The site entrance is the red bar on top. Thanks Curlie Meta editor artisands CurlieCrew
Charlescc Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Sorry about it, maybe the category has been already removed from the index but it's still showing in the frontend? And sorry about the website http://www.angelfire.com/rock/foonet/ , in Opera the red banner was under another angelfire banner!
Meta Artisands Posted January 31, 2006 Meta Posted January 31, 2006 Item 2128 is done. Re: Fifth Dream Today - I left in Alternative as all of the bands really didn't fit Goth. Thanks Curlie Meta editor artisands CurlieCrew
Charlescc Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I didn't think so, and while I am not an expert, I know a bit goth music. The website has a section dedicated to goth subculture, a section dedicated to a popular goth puppet show, a section with goth artworks, and most of the bands are either part of the goth movement or they derive from it. Cure (New Wave/Goth), Nine Inch Nails (industrial goth rock, goth for the masses, alternative music of the 90s mixed with the goth subculture), Switchblade Symphony (Goth). Anyhow, thanks a lot for taking care of it!
disklabs Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 #2124 Simon - I already saw the news of the acquisition of IBAS on the Kroll website. I mentioned it in one of my posts above. What further proof would I need? What I have tried to explain is that an acquistion may not result in the immediate removal of ODP listings for the bought company. Give it a few months and we will probably see the Kroll website(s) giving all the information that is now only available in the IBAS sites. By all means return then and nag some more. JeanManco, No problems, as ever, I appreciate the polite way of you telling me that I am a bit of a div:o Consider me looking forward to the future nag! Take care, and keep up with the good work. As ever, regards, Simon

4ster Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 editors may wish to look at the following links When time is available, editors may wish to look at the following links. Hopefully, I have done this correctly and provided sufficient information. Top: Business: Agriculture and Forestry: Forestry: Consulting (56) http://www.fourwindsforestry.com/ Blank page http://client.forestindustry.com/hawkins-assoc/ Update link – new link provided http://216.219.253.217/ The error message says the site is listed as temporarily unavailable. 4ster Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Business: Agriculture and Forestry: Forestry: Associations: North America When time is available, editors may wish to look at the following: Top: Business: Agriculture and Forestry: Forestry: Associations: North America http://hawaii-forest.org/ This site concerns a forestry association in Hawaii and may be better located in Oceania. The following site is listed twice in this category. The URL’s, http://www.lumber.org/ and http://www.nawla.org/ , point to what appears to be the same site. • North American Wholesale Lumber Association - An international trade association of over 500 wholesalers and manufacturers in the United States and Canada. • North American Wholesale Lumber Association - International trade association of over 650 forest products and building material industry wholesalers, manufacturers and industry affiliated companies throughout the United States and Canada. The following listing is under construction with almost no content. Private Forest Landowners Association - The PFLA was established to represent owners of private managed forests in British Columbia's forest and agricultural land reserves. The PFLA's mission is to promote responsible forestry, and promote government policy that encourages investment on private forest lands, including incentives to grow trees.
jeanmanco Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 #2134 dealt with, thanks. I found a new url for Prophecy Productions, so there is no need to repost later. The Exclusive Fanzine is still online, but there hasn't been a new issue for years, so thanks for pointing it out. Changes may not appear immediately on the public side.
4ster Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 When editors have time: When editors have time: Top: Business: Agriculture and Forestry: Forestry: News and Media The following listing is under construction and contains no relative content: Forestsource.com - Online forest industry information and news for North America.
jeanmanco Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 #2135 dealt with, thanks. You are giving all the information needed, though it would be more helpful to give the ODP title for every listing you mention. That is what is easily visible. Finding a listing by url is possible, but takes longer. In fact the url doesn't need to be given at all if you supply category and title. If you would like to be even more helpful you could provide a clickable link to the category. Again it saves time for the editor. Note that changes may not be immediately visible on the public side of the directory. You should see them within a day or so, probably less.
jeanmanco Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 #2136 dealt with, thanks. I know that in geographical terms Hawaii is not part of North America, but in political terms it is part of the US, and so that is how it is classified in the ODP. See http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/ .
4ster Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Thank you jeanmanco. Your notes to assist the editors are understood.
Charlescc Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Hello! Found an hijack in my old category: http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Console_Platforms/Sony/PlayStation_2/ http://www.playstation2au.com/ hijack/redirects to modchip shop Also: Firwire for PS2 http://lancelot.bobby.free.fr/ should be "Firewire for Ps2"
Charlescc Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Ok, this is my field of expertise! http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Console_Platforms/ I do not mean to sound rude or unrespectful in any way, but this is a main, important category that needs some editing because of lack of quality. Maybe some of the websites should be moved to a "fan pages" subdirectory? Anyhow: Gaming Net http://gamin.spydar.com/ empty http://www.vgames.com/ hijack/spam http://www.angelfire.com/ny/videogamesysteminfo/ closed
Charlescc Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Same as above, this is an important category, considering that Cheats are one of those things that gamers want the most from gaming websites; needless to say, I would love to edit these categories if I have a chance and if I prove to be a good enough editor in my old category, even if I believe there are plenty of good applicants for this category. http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Console_Platforms/Cheats_and_Hints/ All Consoles http://www.allconsoles.com/ mirror/hijack within the same category, between two websites that follow each other in the list - this redirects to http://www.all64.com/, and viceversa Andy's Game Page http://www.fortunecity.com/underworld/postal/1082/ spam/The main page is filled with banners and pop-ups; accessing the inner system specific pages, where there should be some content, just returns a 404 error GamersUnderground http://www.gamersunderground.net/allgames/cheats/index.html gone?/ Dns report shows the domain is still active but misconfigured (http://dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=gamersunderground.net) Cheat Central http://hohoe2.tripod.com/ redirect/hijack - user is first asked to visit a new url; the url contains just one of those terrible spam engines Nation Of Codes http://www.angelfire.com/nj3/nationofcodes/ hijack?/ all internal links redirect to website http://www.cheatcc.com Raven's Corner http://maxpages.com/kombat closed United Gaming http://www.unitedgaming.com/ gone Ultimate Codes http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/cedes/ closed Will's World http://www.angelfire.com/mo/will1/ redirect/hijack - user is first asked to visit a new url; the url contains just one of those terrible spam engines Finally: GameCheetz http://www.gamecheetz.com/ website is not working, but I remember accessing it one week ago; I can keep an eye on it
jeanmanco Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 #2144 dealt with, thanks. PlayStation2au is not redirecting to modchipstore.com. It has a banner advert for same.
jeanmanco Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 #2145 dealt with, thanks. #2146 dealt with, thanks. GameCheetz works for me.
Charlescc Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Hello Jean; I was unprecise, http://www.playstation2au.com/ is not a redirect to a modchip store, it contains just redirections and links to modchip and emulator stores and websites. PlayStation2 AU is no longer the content-based website it was before (I visited it in the past), when it was listed: they no longer offer anything of the content written in the description. They redirect to affiliates selling modchips and console emulators (illegal); plus they offer information about ROMs of copyrighted videogames, which are illegal too. Please check their forums too. My guess is the domain was purchased from some modchip selling company and then used it in this way. Positive on gamecheetz, it works on my side too now! Thanks a lot!!!
